California faces more flooding after strong Pacific storm

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — A strong late-season Pacific storm that brought damaging winds and more rain and snow to saturated California was blamed for two deaths and forecasters said additional flooding was possible Wednesday in parts of the state.

Tuesday’s storm focused most of its energy on central and southern parts of the state, bringing threats of heavy runoff and mountain snowfall. In the north, intense hail was reported in Sacramento, the state capital.

Locally heavy rain and snowmelt may cause flooding Wednesday in southern California and central Arizona, the National Weather Service warned. On Tuesday, some residents of north-central Arizona were told to prepare to evacuate because of rising water levels in rivers and basins.

Trees and power lines were reported downed in the San Francisco Bay Area. An Amtrak commuter train carrying 55 passengers struck a downed tree and derailed near the East Bay village of Porta Costa. The train remained upright and nobody was injured, Amtrak and fire officials said.

3. Man, I wish a few of these stores could cross the Rockys to flood the Colorado.

Mead & Powell are in terrible shape. I know the snowpack is way above normal, but its not enough to really make a big impact on those lakes.

huge snow pack mean that California shouldn't have to take a drop from lake mead this year?

5. Bomb cyclone

That’s what this storm was called. In all the years I’ve lived in the Bay Area I have never seen anything like this. Trees are uprooted, power lines down, rain like a hurricane. A friend was stuck on the Bay Bridge for hours when an overturned big rig blocked all the lanes.

It’s sunny now, at least for a while. I’ll clean up my deck that is covered in branches from the neighbor’s redwood tree, overturned flower pots and broken solar lights. We were lucky that’s all the damage we had.

6. I was looking at the satellite images of CA

and there was a very clear "eye" right over the bay area all day. It really looked like a hurricane and it lingered for a long time. We had a bomb cyclone in San Diego for 20 minutes in 2012 and all of the trees were blown over from hurricane strength winds. It was so scary that I have been looking at weather maps on line ever since. They give a good deal of info about the weather anywhere, instantly.
