Former Mississippi nonprofit director pleads guilty in welfare scandal involving Brett Favre
Source: AL.com/AP
The former director of a Mississippi nonprofit organization pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to stealing government funds intended to help needy families in one of the poorest states in the U.S., court documents show. Christi Webb, who stepped down this week as director of the north Mississippi-based Family Resource Center, appeared before U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves in Jackson. Court documents show Webb pleaded guilty to charges that could send her to prison for up to 10 years. The federal charges stem from a welfare scandal that has ensnared high-profile figures, including retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre, who lives in Mississippi. John Davis, who was Mississippi Department of Human Services executive director from 2016 to mid-2019, pleaded guilty last September to state and federal charges tied to misspending money through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. He has not yet been sentenced. The Mississippi Department of Human Services last year filed a civil lawsuit to try to recover the millions of dollars of misspent welfare money. Webb and the Family Resource Center of North Mississippi are among those being sued. Favre has not faced criminal charges but is one of more than three dozen defendants in the civil lawsuit. 1. She's still listed as ED on the webpage.
I found this part of her bio interesting.
"Webb’s goal is to not only help individuals with specific and imminent needs but to empower whole families to elevate them out of poverty by providing skills and confidence to sustain improved lives for themselves and for future generations. She said that part of the objective is to eliminate dependency on assistance systems and move whole families into self-sufficiency. “Just like it takes a whole family to solve problems, it takes a committed and prepared team to serve in so many areas,” she said. While it is true success takes a team, the team has to be led by an exceptional leader, one who is able to foresee not only the end objective but who is able to direct the process of achieving that result. Webb is truly an “out-of-the-box” thinker in her innovative and creative approaches to overcome the myriad of problems many Mississippians face." I guess her "out-of-the-box" thinking was to funnel taxpayer funds into rich people's pockets and pet projects. How innovative. https://www.frcnms.org/christi-webb-executive-director |

2. So, likely MS officials will appoint him to some higher level position, after
Sticking a gold star on his forehead for exploiting the vulnerable.

5. He'd probably gotten away with it except for hiring a celebrity...
...that was paid a fortune for doing nothing. Farve tarnished his reputation and many accomplishments for money. A lot of pro golfers are bathing in Saudi blood money...obviously not caring what others think.

9. Or people who take from the poor to
make themselves rich. There is no altruism on the takers part; only greed.
