Protests erupt as French government forces through higher retirement age
Source: CNN
The French government has forced through controversial plans to raise the country’s retirement age from 62 to 64, a move likely to inflame the country’s weeks-long protest movement.
French President Emmanuel Macron will trigger special constitutional powers to enact the proposed pension reform bill, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced Thursday in the National Assembly, which had not yet voted on the proposal. “We cannot bet on the future of our pensions,” Borne said amid jeers and chants from lawmakers. “This reform is necessary.” Labor leaders in France called for new demonstrations following Borne’s announcement, with several thousand people converging at Paris’ Place de la Concorde and in several other cities in France on Thursday evening. 8. Just because the lumps sitting on their ass in congress can do that until they are 70 or 80
doesn't mean people that actually physically do work can.

11. I waited for the higher benefit at age 67 to retire.
The problem is age discrimination or was in my case. New boss getting rid of all the older workers so she could get younger workers at a lower wage. She was fired for that.

12. Be careful what you ask for
I retired too early and it was driving me crazy. I went back to work for my boss after retirement and when that was done a friend asked me if I knew a professional driver who wanted to get into cannabis transportation. Now I am a 61 year old cannabis salesman in California and am really enjoying it, I like the people I work with and get to meet new people all the time.
