Report: Jackson Jr. Probe Expands To Include Wife

ERIC LACH 11:23 AM EST, TUESDAY NOVEMBER 13, 2012

Federal prosecutors are reviewing evidence that the wife of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) was complicit in the alleged misuse of campaign funds that has landed the Illinois Congressman in hot water. Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson has until now been able to keep a little distance between herself and the probe targeting her husband.

Recent reports have said that Jackson Jr. has been in plea deal talks to resolve allegations that he used campaign money to redecorate his home. The probe reportedly began before June 10, when Jackson Jr. collapsed in his Washington D.C. home. He subsequently spent the summer being treated for bipolar disorder, and has yet to return to work.

From the Wall Street Journal's story published Monday night:

No decision has been made on whether to pursue criminal charges against Ms. Jackson, the people said, and prosecutors may use the threat of charging her as a means of extracting a guilty plea from the congressman. Ms. Jackson's office didn't respond to requests for comment, nor did lawyers for Mr. Jackson. A congressional spokesman for Mr. Jackson declined to comment.

Jackson Jr. was reelected to Congress last week.
