Trump documents: Congress offered briefing on records kept at Mar-a-Lago
Source: The Guardian
Hugo Lowell in Washington @hugolowell Sun 5 Feb 2023 16.59 EST US officials have offered to provide a closed-door briefing to congressional leaders about their review of about 300 classified-marked documents retrieved from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort last year, sources familiar with the matter said. The precise nature of the briefing remains unclear. The offer from the justice department and the Office of the Director for National Intelligence (ODNI) was described as unofficial on Sunday and no date had yet been set, though the briefing could come as soon as this week. But the closed-door session with the “Gang of Eight” – the Republican and Democratic leaders of the House and Senate, as well as of both intelligence committees – could provide an insight into the sensitivity of the documents Trump retained and the possibility of indictments. The nature of the documents is one of the central issues in the criminal investigation into Trump overseen by the special counsel Jack Smith, who is examining whether the former president wilfully retained national security information and obstructed justice. 1. Some Republicans may like this but I'm pretty sure many of the most volatile ones won't.
They don't want the DOJ and ODNI to be forthcoming with information. They would rather have something to hit them over the head with. Whatever happens, it won't stop them from lying about it unless they're under oath.

is when the lying starts.

3. The thing is, though, the Repunks won't care.
If they weren't stuck to their endless "no, no, no" script, they might pay a little attention, but goons like Gymshorts and Rubio only care about power.

5. Exactly
They'll give the "it's no big deal" act to Fux Nooze and no one will get the truth. Repugs can't be trusted with the rule of law.

13. Looks like it; surmising that Jack Smith would allow this as a test to see whether some in the
coup caucus would talk to pardon seekers (and others) about what they found out. Put the fear into all of them.

15. Here's the master list. At the end of this month 6 crimes will have run out the clock...
Statute of limitation already expired despite "substantial" evidence:
Flynn investigation conduct Comey & Russia investigation conduct Comey firing Efforts to fire Mueller Efforts to curtail Mueller And by the end of this month, Feb 2023: Order to McGahn to deny attempt to fire Mueller By the end of 2023, all but one of Trump's crimes will have run out the clock: Conduct toward Flynn Conduct toward Manafort (cooperation) Conduct toward Manafort (influencing jury) Conduct toward Stone (cooperation) Conduct toward Cohen (influencing testimony) And the last one in January 2024: Conduct toward Cohen (cooperation) These are just shortened names for each crime. Also, crimes that do not have substantial evidence per legal and law enforcement experts are not included (such as efforts to prevent disclosure of Trump Tower meeting, or efforts to have Sessions take over the investigation). |

18. Really? Ya just had to bring up the 1973 FBI memo???
Because at the bottom of page 3 is a footnote that makes it clear that once House impeachment proceedings have concluded - regardless of outcome - criminal charges can be charged against a standing president and a trial begun. And it doesn't matter what the Senate does because all they can do is negate the House impeachment via acquittal, not a criminal finding of guilty.

6. While not revealing the exact nature of such documents, why not reveal to all Americans
the nature of these documents so we all understand the gravity of what tRUMP too, refused to return, e.g., instead of stating 'specific nuclear targets in the state of MO etc.', simply state 'military targets'. This way, we kind of get a drift of the seriousness of the materials hoarded by tRUMP, accidently retained by Pence and Biden. They have been talking about government being transparent, why not start now?

21. It's not the contents
it's the info that's gleaned in the briefing about danger to sources/methods etc. This info will be useful to whoever "accessed" it because they can further home in on where their efforts should go for getting to those sources/methods. The briefing will also be able to give the GQP an idea of which documents etc. may have been of most concern and that info will allow the Orange Ruski and his partners in this to focus their obstruction/destruction efforts and to know which "customers" may get the most heat. All of this is very valuable info to the crooks and gives them insight on how things are proceeding.

11. I will be actually shocked if an indictment is brought against trump by the DOJ. From all
appearances, it seems that the DOJ has been doing everything to delay this investigation.
If it wasn't for Fani Willis and Letitia James, I believe Bragg would have been quite happy to let trump's activities slip under the rug. Everyone witnessed what happened on January 6th 2020, along trump's own recorded words trying to pressure various state representatives to alter the vote counts, and incite the rioters to attack the Capital. and we are told by people like Andrew Weissmann how complicated this is? Andrew Weissmann worked under the Mueller Russian investigation, and I am supposed to be impressed by his view of the landscape? In my view we are being taken for a ride, but it sure make for great TV. (sarcasm) |

20. Why would anyone even write the following words?
"special counsel Jack Smith, who is examining whether the former president willfully retained national security information and obstructed justice".
We know he willfully retained national security information and obstructed justice. He admitted it! He flaunts it! He thinks he's above the law because he is above the law until someone at the DOJ has the spine to make any move at all. |

See if they remember anything.
