Rep. George Santos says he will recuse himself from committee assignments amid investigationsLast edited Tue Jan 31, 2023, 05:37 PM - Edit history (2)
Source: NBC News
WASHINGTON — Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., said Tuesday he will recuse himself from his committee assignments amid multiple ongoing investigations into his finances and other issues. “With the ongoing attention surrounding both my personal and campaign financial investigations, I have submitted a request to Speaker McCarthy that I be temporarily recused from my committee assignments until I am cleared," Santos said in a statement. “This was a decision that I take very seriously,” he added. “The business of the 118th Congress must continue without media fanfare. It is important that I primarily focus on serving the constituents of New York’s Third Congressional District and providing federal level representation without distraction.” Santos, who has admitted to lying about much of his background and has faced numerous calls to resign from Congress, was assigned seats on the House Small Business and Science committees. He told reporters Tuesday that he is not considering leaving office. He shared his decision during a closed-door meeting Tuesday morning with the House GOP Conference, Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., told reporters at a press conference afterward. 28. Thanks. My favorite is 'I'm no Santos'.
Because a) we don't know what the greasy little shit's real name is; and b) Santos, in Portuguese (and Spanish), means 'saints'.
And that, he certainly isn't. |

2. Yeah, Right... and the Easter Bunny will be sitting in for him.
Someone paid quite a lot of money to get him there and I don't see George reneging on whatever it is they want him doing in Congress. The people with that kind of pull expect their favors to be delivered.

12. The "statement" is one more falsehood to make it appear he's acting in good faith.
The fact he's still there is what really matters.
When he's charged in Federal or NY State courts will be when he's actually got to stand down. IMO he's there to suit the interests of those who paid for his election. What function that is won't be clear until we know who paid the bills. Other than that he's one more vote Kevin can count on, and one more chaos agent in Congress. |

19. Same thing happened to MTG two years ago
However it sounds like the person known as "George Santos" hasn't actually lost his committee assignments. Yet.
He's on the committees for now, but he can't participate or vote on the committee deliberations. McCarthy doesn't want to lose "Santos" voting when it really matters, when he really needs it, on the full House votes. Kevin McCarthy is a chicken-shit. But we all knew that. ![]() ![]() |
