Biden meets with Democratic leaders as debt showdown looms
Source: AP
By LISA MASCARO and SEUNG MIN KIM today WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden hosted the Democratic congressional leaders Tuesday at the White House as they face a new era of divided government in Washington, staring down a debt ceiling crisis and running up against a new House Republican majority eager for confrontation. The president and the top Democrats used the private gathering in the Roosevelt Room to project a unified front against what Biden called “extreme Republican economic plans.” Rather than enter into negotiations with House Republicans to cut spending in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, the White House has stressed repeatedly that it wants Congress to lift the borrowing capacity without conditions. Democrats said it’s up to Republicans to go public about what budget cuts the new House majority wants to make. “Apparently they’re genuinely serious about cutting Social Security, cutting Medicare,” Biden said about the GOP proposals as he sat down with the Democratic leaders from the House and the Senate. As the meeting began, Biden said Democrats were eager to talk about the GOP extremes. He scoffed at the Republicans’ proposed 30% sales tax. ![]() Read more: https://apnews.com/article/biden-politics-united-states-government-us-republican-party-district-of-columbia-ff8989ae082d1e11be0cf574a76143fa

3. Yup! The gqp need to at least familiarize themselves with their "successful" history with this
Kind of nonsense.
They had a chance to cut SS and MC when they had a trifecta and of course they didn’t. They think they can make President Biden complicit ..this is more about hurting the Dems…nothing else! BIG news flash…it didn’t happen in the past and isn’t going to happen this time either. |

10. Exactly THIS!
The Repugs are by no means "negotiating" --they are, once again, hostage taking in their never ending effort to bend the nation to their will.

12. Hear, hear
Besides which: for Repugs, the crisis IS the point.
Even if Biden were to (somehow) check off every last thing on their fascist budget wish list, they'll still trigger a default - because they want a nice, deep recession just in time for '24. |

6. Go on a massive offensive campaign
Overwhelm the Republicans daily. Don't be nice about it; maybe let Kamala spearhead the effort -- it would give her some street cred.
Be forceful. Be energetic. Don't shy away from accusing Republicans of trying to destroy the economy. Tell the seniors they will lose half their monthly social security payments unnecessarily because of Republican intransigence. Tell the military contractors they won't get payments for delivered weapons systems. Make the Republicans play defense, and then hammer them on their surely lame responses. Make them suffer the political consequences of their total disregard for the welfare of the country. |

I agree, let Kamal start being the attack person. Start getting her on the tv shows,
We need to conduct a straight on in your face attack and let people know what the republicans want to do. |

7. If the party gives in to one SS or mc cut it will never win an election again
Be strong Democrats, don't let the party of Putin destroy our hard earned programs.
