Possible suspect in L.A. mass shooting found dead in van, law enforcement sources say
Source: NBC News
LOS ANGELES — A man that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department described as “possibly” being a suspect in a mass shooting in Monterey Park is dead, according to two law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation. Earlier, sources familiar with the investigation into the Monterey Park Shooting told NBC News that the person in a white van stopped in Torrance fit the description of the person in the van from the Monterey Park crime scene as well as a second crime scene in Alhambra. Authorities surrounded and then breached the van where the unidentified individual was found dead. Late Saturday night, 10 people were killed and another 10 were wounded in the midst of Lunar New Year celebrations in Monterey Park, an Asian American enclave, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. It was not clear what the motive was, Homicide Capt. Andrew Meyer said at a news conference early Sunday, as the search for the suspected gunman continued. I wonder if they'll ever figure out his motive?

13. Probably held some grudge against the studios.
Most likely we’ll never know, unless witnesses say something.

Also patronized by the Asian-American community? I have yet to hear anything about that.

11. Motive doesn't matter much.
Doing what he did is a clear indication his motives will never be understood.
But America has a gun problem that will never be solved. Not while people see a gun of any sort of an answer to any question they may be concerned about. A gun is a piece of machinery that makes a loud noise and throws a piece of metal out the end. No different to a lawnmower or chainsaw, a specific tool for a specific purpose, yet people rarely if ever commit mass murder with one of those. The gun has a special appeal in the eye of an owner - it makes you powerful, it lets you be judge and executioner, the perfect revenge tool. Even trained police people too often see a gun as a solution to a problem. What chance do normal gun owners have? (It could be argued that just owning a gun, or wanting to own one, makes you . . . not normal.) |

12. One thing that came to mind to me was this
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143018108
Supposedly those "facilities" set up around the U.S. and world, and in or near their communities, act as resource centers. But they have allegedly claimed to engage in "crime solving", and end up as China's base to launch efforts to find those who they believe are dissidents (or wanted criminals) to neutralize them (or bring them back to China for criminal prosecution). |

15. I heard overnight
that the second set of Chinese killed (4 of them) by a different assailant, were mushroom farmers. I know just outside of here (Philly) is probably the largest complex of mushroom farms in the U.S. and most of the workers are Mexican immigrants, so it was surprising to hear that in California there were Chinese doing this.
I recall reading that there had always been a path of Chinese migration here through both Canada or Mexico. I remember a work trip to Seattle and after work, having rented a car to drive up to Vancouver, B.C. and being shocked at the Chinese population in the city. In fact, they make up at least 20% of the city's population. ![]() That article about the Chinese "police stations" focused on NYC but I expect that since more Chinese are in California, those types of facilities are most likely there as well. Most of the East Asians here in the Philly area are either Koreans or Vietnamese, although we do have a good-sized Chinatown complete with a gateway "arch" at the entrance of the neighborhood. ![]() |
