Kremlin welcomes Elon Musk proposal for Ukraine settlement denounced by Kyiv

Source: Reuters

MOSCOW, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The Kremlin praised Tesla boss Elon Musk on Tuesday for suggesting a possible peace deal to end the war in Ukraine, after Kyiv rebuked Musk for proposing terms it views as rewarding Russia.

"It is very positive that somebody like Elon Musk is looking for a peaceful way out of this situation," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a conference call.

"Compared to many professional diplomats, Musk is still searching for ways to achieve peace. And achieving peace without fulfilling Russia's conditions is absolutely impossible," he added.

I think the CIA should keep an eye on Elon musk. Surveillance may be necessary. Did you notice that he only called for peace once Ukraine turn the tables and Russia is getting its ass kicked?

He could use his past delivery of satellite help for Ukraine as an alibi to collaboration with Putin.

Elon wants a big market to sell cars to Russians who can't even drive a new car with a airbag anymore.

Since when is he a diplomat? His billions are going to his head, making him think he can butt into geopolitical matters.

It is telling that the Kremlin is looking for a way out...a face-saving one though that doesn't admit defeat and this one actually gains them territory.

The Ukrainians are kicking Russian ass now and won't go for it.

The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that criminalizes negotiation by unauthorized American citizens with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States.

and everyone on DU for that matter. Spouting off an uninformed opinion on twitter is not a crime.

In practical matters, his re-tasking of Starlink for Ukraine to communicate and defeating Russia's attempts to blockade communications is closer to a Logan Act violation than spouting off nonsense on twitter.

It is one thing for you and I to spout off. It is completely different thing when one of the richest men in the world spouts off. A man with close ties to russia who is trying to cultivate the russian car market. He is interfering with world affiars and he needs to be stopped.
That said no one has ever been convicted of the Logan act.

I don't know what, but he should take his clown nose off. People are DYING in this war. The Ukrainians are winning right now, and they are going to take back all of Ukraine plus Crimea. That's all we need to know. That, and the fact that they didn't start this war. It's all on Putin.

People like Tucker Carlson and Musk will not be remembered as patriotic, or fondly, or anything. People do not get confused and equate money with any great intelligence. He's showing what an ass he is.

to buy Teslas, are trying to leave Russia before they get sucked into Putin's war and turned into mincemeat. His target buyers are now in Turkey, the 'Stans, Georgia, and (if they had waited weeks for visas) other western countries. In any case, his market would have been limited to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and not much even there.

"Sanctioned Ivan" has some great videos about needing a new car during Putin's war. He ended up with an old Lada and a couple of dodgy mechanics who promised to make it just like new.

ETA: He's out of Russia.

Let's be real here, he posted a poll on Twitter. I'm sure there have been hundreds of similar polls posted on Twitter and conducted by polling organizations with similar proposals. The difference is everyone follows Musk and see's it. He has every right to post a poll on anything he wants. It doesn't make him a traitor or a Russian sympathizer just like his idiotic posts about Trump don't make him a Trump fan.

Frankly nobody knows who or what he really supports and I think he likes it that way. At best he's a troll so just let it be and move on.

Like, a few months ago he made a brief show of anti wokeness, just to rally reactionary support at a time when he was being called out for sexual harrassment. He looked for who would support him in spite of such an accusation and settled on the racists. Now the story's died down and he no longer makes those kinds of statements.

Also he's admitted that all his promotion of the idiot idea of the Hyperloop was just to sabotage support for high speed rail.

So he's not just some asbergery naif who blurts out whatever pops into his head, he is totally trying to maneuver public opinion.

Did Musk propose anything to Russia? Ukraine? The UN? I don't think so.

So Russia, a sovereign state, is now reduced to welcoming twitter polls from total strangers. "Desperate" doesn't quite describe this move. I am making a note of that.
