Judge upholds Georgia election laws on all counts in voting rights case
Source: AJC
A federal judge delivered a decisive ruling Friday against allies of Democrat Stacey Abrams in their 4-year-old voting rights lawsuit, upholding Georgia election laws on all counts in the case filed by Fair Fight Action days after the 2018 election. U.S. District Judge Steve Jones’ judgment concludes the major case over Georgia’s voter registration and absentee ballot practices after a trial in which voters testified about problems at the polls but few of them were unable to cast a ballot. “Although Georgia’s election system is not perfect, the challenged practices violate neither the Constitution nor the VRA (Voting Rights Act),” wrote Jones in his 288-page order. The decision followed what is believed to be the longest voting rights trial in the history of the Northern District of Georgia, lasting 21 days with testimony from over 50 witnesses, wrote Jones, a nominee of President Barack Obama. 1. So a judge who is a Democrat, appointed by Obama, sides with the RIGHTY so to speak
I guess if the judgement is correct, it is true that Democrats care more about the Constitution than party.

3. Worried about death threats no doubt
"I wanna be able to go to the mall without havin' to worry," seems to be the attitude here.

6. IMUO, the judgement was correct. Shouldn't have taken THIS long either.
Article is behind a paywall, but if its the one about the "purging" of voting lists then I never thought that one would go anywhere. But there have been several different suits so this COULD be another one.

11. Ilm not sure what to think of this ruling, or the case for that matter
there have been far too many reports over the years for me to digest and absorb.
I used to take headlines at face value, especially anything related to or regarding voter suppression. In particular in Georgia, Flordia, NC and other areas in the South. Checking in DU this morning and I'm so down hearted generally speaking, I find it harder and harder to keep things in perspective, sort through threads focused on MTG etc and try to hang on to some measure of optimism, but stumble on to creepy, perverted and corrupt judges in Louisiana, or questionable rulings from Judges overseeing voter suppression, or TFG's classified documents, Russian aggression and out in the open thugery, etc etc etc. Taking a long break I think. I just want to know when TFG has been arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced to death or life in prison, along with his henchmen. J |
