State GOP's rough night

ALBANY Democrats finished ahead in four state Senate races on Tuesday night, putting them on track for a 33-30 majority in the state's upper chamber and the return of one-party rule in New York state government.

Sen. Mike Gianaris, who led the Senate Democrats' campaign efforts, was quick to boast of his party's return to power, but Republicans such as Senate Republican Campaign Committee Chairman Tom Libous were far from rolling over.

"It was a tough night for us, but it is not all lost," Binghamton's Libous said in an interview Wednesday morning on WGDJ. "We still have some opportunities and options open to us."

"The voters of this state ... want to see Democrats in control of the state Senate," said Gianaris, appearing minutes later on the same station.

This has gotten lost in all the national race discussions, and quite honestly, I'm not certain the Democrats are any better prepared to manage the Senate than they were two years ago, but.....

1. Same thing in Minnesota

Dems took over both houses.
