DeSantis suspends Tampa prosecutor who took stance against criminalizing abortion providers
Source: CNN
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday suspended Tampa's elected prosecutor, Andrew Warren, for pledging not to use his office to go after people who seek and provide abortions or on doctors that provide gender affirming care to transgender people. DeSantis also accused Warren of not pursuing criminals to the fullest extent of his powers as the state attorney of Hillsborough County. "To take a position that you have veto powers over the laws of the state is untenable," DeSantis said at a press conference in Tampa surrounded by law enforcement. The move by DeSantis, a Republican, to remove a Democrat twice elected by Hillsborough voters drew an immediate and sharp rebuke from Democratic state lawmakers and officials. Minority Leader Sen. Lauren Book said DeSantis was "behaving more like a dictator than 'America's governor.'" And Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, a Democratic candidate for governor, called Warren's suspension "a politically motivated attack on a universally respected state attorney democratically elected to exercise prosecutorial discretion." 5. I wouldn't be too sure about that
Last edited Thu Aug 4, 2022, 03:45 PM - Edit history (1) Warren has two options, demand a trial in the State Senate, or go to court. The State Senate hasn't shown any signs of bucking DeSantis lately, and all of the justices on the FL Supreme Court have been appointed by Republicans.
Former Broward Sheriff tried both of these routes and he is still a former Sheriff. |

11. Certainly possible, but in the end I think that Warren is finished
At least for this term. The GOP has too strong of a hold of state government here in FL.
He could run for election the next time that the office is on the ballot. |

4. Hypocrisy, thy name is GQP
Remember when the GQP said they would not enforce federal gun laws and nothing happened? And yet, when a Dem says they won't enforce laws they disagree with.....
This is why we need to hold these assholes accountable. |

They detest the dictatorship in their native country, yet they will blindly vote for the likes of Trump or DeSantis.

19. Nope.
It’s because Machismo is so important to the males, and they think that bullying equals strength. I’ve been told this by Cuban women I work with. However I have noticed that the boys in the family are treated with much greater value than the girls, so misogyny might be a cultural thing.
