'Too much mayo': Subway customer arrested after shooting 2 employees, killing 1 over sandwich order

Source: WSB TV

Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that has left one woman dead and another in critical condition at a metro Atlanta Subway store.

The reason for the shooting? Too much mayonnaise on a sandwich, police said.

APD responded to a Circle K gas station at the intersection of Northside and Markham St. to calls about a shooting just after 6:30 p.m. When they arrived, they learned two female employees had been shot after a dispute about the amount of mayonnaise on a customerís Subway sandwich.

Police said the woman who was killed was 26 years old. A 24-year-old employee was shot in front of her 5-year-old son and is now in critical condition. A relative told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that the victim, Jada Statum, was hit twice after she pushed her son under the counter to keep him from being hurt.

THIS is why there's a labor shortage - people don't want to die for a low paying job.

ALSO, later in the story it mentions another worker who had a gun who took a shot at the suspect but couldn't hit him. A 'good guy with a gun' didn't do a damned bit of good, and likely could have hurt or killed a bystander.

7. People Control, Not Gun Control

This is my generic response to gun threads where people are shot and killed by the dumb or criminal possession of guns. For the record, I grew up in the South and on military bases. I was taught about firearms as a child, and I grew up hunting, was a member of the NRA, and I still own guns. In the 70ís, I dropped out of the NRA because they become more radical and less interested in safety and training. Some personal experiences where people I know were involved in shootings caused me to realize that anyone could obtain and posses a gun no matter how illogical it was for them to have a gun. Also, easy access to more powerful guns, guns in the hands of children, and guns that werenít secured are out of control in our society. As such, hereís what I now think ought to be the requirements to possess a gun. Iím not debating the legal language, I just think itís the reasonable way to stop the shootings. Notice, none of this restricts the type of guns sold. This is aimed at the people who shoot others, because itís clear that they should never have had a gun.

1.) Anyone in possession of a gun (whether they own it or not) should have a regularly renewed license. If you want to call it a permit, certificate, or something else that's fine.
2.) To get a license, you should have a background check, and be examined by a professional for emotional and mental stability appropriate for gun possession. It might be appropriate to require that examination to be accompanied by references from family, friends, employers, etc. This check is not to subject you to a mental health diagnosis, just check on your superficial and apparent gun-worthyness.
3.) To get the license, you should be required to take a safety course and pass a test appropriate to the type of gun you want to use.
4.) To get a license, you should be over 21. Under 21, you could only use a gun under direct supervision of a licensed person and after obtaining a learnerís license. Your license might be restricted if you have children or criminals or other unsafe people living in your home. (If you want to argue 18 or 25 or some other age, fine. 21 makes sense to me.)
5.) If you possess a gun, you would have to carry a liability insurance policy specifically for gun ownership - and likely you would have to provide proof of appropriate storage, security, and whatever statistical reasons that emerge that would drive the costs and ability to get insurance.
6.) You could not purchase a gun or ammunition without a license, and purchases would have a waiting period.
7.) If you possess a gun without a license, you go to jail, the gun is impounded, and a judge will have to let you go (just like a DUI).
8.) No one should carry an unsecured gun (except in a locked case, unloaded) when outside of home. Guns should be secure when transporting to a shooting event without demonstrating a special need. Their license should indicate training and special carry circumstances beyond recreational shooting (security guard, etc.). If you are carrying your gun while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you lose your gun and license.
9.) If you buy, sell, give away, or inherit a gun, your license information should be recorded.
10.) If you accidentally discharge your gun, commit a crime, get referred by a mental health professional, are served a restraining order, etc., you should lose your license and guns until reinstated by a serious relicensing process.

Most of you know that a license is no big deal. Besides a driverís license you need a license to fish, operate a boat, or many other activities. I realize these differ by state, but that is not a reason to let anyone without a bit of sense pack a semiautomatic weapon in public, on the roads, and in schools. I think we need to make it much harder for some people to have guns.

21. Boy I like that list!

I also think some kind of advanced safety features should be incorporated so that if you lose your gun it canít be fired by someone else (but the owner can reset it if desired).

I thought I read that these kind of safety features were possible but neither the NRA or the gun manufactures want to do it.

Of course I donít know much about guns so maybe Iím waaay off base here.

Did he think his lawyer would offer the "Too Much Mayo" Defense, and score him an acquittal?

In an age where rapists get lighter sentences if they happen to be good swimmers, I guess anything is possible. But still..

11. If I shot somebody every time my fast food order got messed up...

I'd be the country's leading serial killer (assuming I managed to get away with it every time).

I'm a picky eater, I admit it, and I own it. That means I rarely order anything "as is." You'd be amazed at how many ways there are to mess up an order as simple as a McDonald's filet o' fish with "cheese only, no tartar" (the default being both). Most of the time they get it right, but I've gotten tartar only (no cheese), no cheese OR tartar, and there was one time someone started to put tartar sauce on, scraped it off and thought they could get by with serving it to me that way.

My favorite mixup was the time the clerk hit the "bacon only" button by mistake, and I got a fish sandwich with bacon and nothing else. I loooove bacon, so I let that one slide!

I am always cordial and polite when I send something back, because I know it's a shitty job, AND I know the person who put the sandwich together wrong isn't the same one who took the order or served it to me anyway.

My point is that places like McDonald's and Subway screw up ALL the damned tine, and it is NOT a big deal. You no like, you just hand it back, and they will fix it or make you a new one. It is, at most a few minutes delay and a VERY minor inconvenience. If customers were shooting people over every mixup, the result would be absolute mayhem, and no one would ever want to work at or visit a fast food restaurant EVER AGAIN.

What the ever-loving fuck do people say to themselves that gives them permission to kill someone over a freaking condiment?

26. There is no labor shortage as the population has not greatly changed nor

is it because people don't want to work like the right wing morons claim.
Rather over the last 50 years a lot of businesses (mostly retail and the service industry) came to rely on low paid part time workers to run their businesses at peak times causing those workers to have to work 2 or more jobs at different times of the day just to survive.
When the virus hit those same companies fired those workers to cut costs so those workers had to do something to survive.
Some took courses or went back to school to be able to get a different jobs and others found out they could get paid more with different jobs like delivering peoples groceries for example.
So really if businesses were honestly trying to hire workers they would be offering better pay and benefits but most want to try to continue with the same practices of low pay part timers.

36. This has been going on for a very long time in this country. My EMT license expired in 1986.

One day I got a call to a Burger King in Fort Lauderdale. There was a customer who took a slug to the chest from what we were told was a .38. The victim weighed over 300lbs. It took everything we had to load him up into the ambulance and race him to the hospital. It was the very same day that this happened:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Ysidro_McDonald%27s_massacre

I remember seeing the news about this and freaking out as I was on duty. I took some deep breaths and went through my training. I also knew that there would be paramedics on scene to help with guidance. Gun massacres are not new, there are just so many of them now that we tend to forget about the ones from decades past.

there have always been angry people (men) with handguns looking for a reason to use them.

it's a goddamn tragedy for the 2 workers and their family, and over nothing. Over a condiment.

It's likely that without the presence of the gun, there would have been no violence.
