Wisconsin Republican lawmakers reject abortion ban repeal

By TODD RICHMOND

MADISON, Wis. (AP) ó Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Eversí bid to repeal the battleground stateís dormant abortion ban failed Wednesday after Republican lawmakers convened and immediately adjourned a special session without taking any action.

Wisconsin adopted a ban on abortion except to save the motherís life in 1849, a year after the territory became a state. The U.S. Supreme Courtís landmark 1973 ruling that legalized abortion nationwide nullified the ban.

The court is expected to rule this month in a case that could end Roe v. Wade, which would allow Wisconsinís ban to take effect. Lawmakers had to meet after Evers called the Legislature into special session this month, but they were not required to vote on the issue.

Republicans blasted Eversí move as a political stunt designed to please the Democratic base as he faces reelection.

3. thank you

it enraged me when i read that. it's so fucking bogus and it's projection, because anything a republican does is for power and/or greed. they don't give a fuck about their constituents so why would a Democrat? well because they're not like you assholes! aargh

2. This is not the friendly state I left in 1973.

We were a grungy city as Milwaukee was coated in coal dust.
Piles on 35th and Forest Holme. Mitchell St was terrible, Google White Tower. That's what I left
I knew things were going south when Brier arrested George Carlin at Summerfest.
We never had the shootings like now.
I also miss Suburpia!
Always a Packer fan/owner!
