Texas senator sues DPS for records from school shooting at Robb Elementary

Source: KRNS5

— Senator Roland Gutierrez is suing Texas DPS for the complete records of the school shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, saying "families deserve to know the complete, unalterable truth about what happened that day."

19 children and 2 teachers were murdered by a gunman armed with an assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of expensive ammunition.

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, June 22, Sen. Gutierrez states:

"In the wake of the senseless tragedy, the people of Uvalde and Texas have demanded answers from their government. To date, they have been met with lies, misstatements, and shifts of blame."

1. Texas State Senator Gutierrez sues Texas DPS for Uvalde shooting records

https://www.cbsnews.com/dfw/news/texas-state-senator-gutierrez-open-records-lawsuit-dps/

The Texas State Senator representing the district that includes Uvalde filed a lawsuit against the Texas Department of Safety on June 22, 2022, accusing the agency of unlawfully denying an open records request.

Sen. Roland Gutierrez, a Democrat who represents District 19, said he first sent the open records request to DPS on May 31, 2022 asking for "several categories of information." District 19 includes parts of San Antonio, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Uvalde, and Universal City.

He said the agency did not properly handle his request for documents related to the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary that left 19 students and two teachers dead. Sen. Gutierrez has previously called for Texas DPS to be more transparent in its investigation......

In a statement, Sen. Gutierrez said:

"In the wake of this massacre, the State of Texas has completely failed to provide the community of Uvalde with truthful answers. Weeks have come and gone, and yet families who lost their children have not been told by their government the basic information about who was on site as their children bled, what tools were at their disposal to stop the gunman, and exactly why they decided to wait instead of act... The community of Uvalde deserves answers now, so that we can begin to heal and make sure a massacre like this never happens again."

2. Senator Gutierrez deserves those records NOW. It's a crime that he hasn't gotten them.

And of course for the families too. It's a mockery of justice and truth.

3. Sen Guitierrez is a Democrat, and he is NOT on the committee holding the hearings

source-https://www.texastribune.org/2022/06/02/roland-gutierrez-uvalde-committee-senate/
snip-"State Sen. Roland Gutierrez, a Democrat who represents Uvalde, said his exclusion from a special legislative committee designed to make legislative recommendations in response to the Uvalde shooting was a “slap in the face” to the people of that community.

"I do consider it a slap in the face to the people of Uvalde," said Gutierrez, who has been one of the most vocal Democratic lawmakers on the need for gun safety measures since the school shooting last week. "They didn't have their representative there."

Gutierrez also said the selection of the committee's members was an affront to residents of El Paso and Santa Fe, two communities rocked by mass shootings in 2019, who also will not have their state senators on the committee. The committee members are appointed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a Republican whom Gutierrez has been critical of in the past."

5. I'm amazed Uvalde cops haven't claimed it to be a matter of security so they can't

You know, because if they released what happened it would allow future shooters to do the same.

No, don't look too closely at that for logic...
