Trump backs Mastriano in Pennsylvania GOP governor primary
Source: AP
![]() HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Donald Trump on Saturday endorsed Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary for governor, siding with a far-right candidate who was outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection and has worked with determination to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Mastriano was already leading a crowded field of contenders, and the former president’s endorsement puts him on even stronger footing heading into Tuesday’s primary. But there are growing fears from party leaders that Mastriano, a state senator and retired U.S. Army colonel, is too extreme to beat Democrat Josh Shapiro in November’s general election and could drag down other Republicans competing in the pivotal state. That includes a U.S. Senate contest in which Trump is trying to lift his endorsed candidate to victory in a highly competitive race. Mastriano has, for example, helped spread unsubstantiated claims from Trump and his allies that Democrats fraudulently stole the election for Joe Biden — something that Trump seized on in his endorsement statement. “There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for Election Integrity than State Senator Doug Mastriano,” Trump wrote. “He has revealed the Deceit, Corruption, and outright Theft of the 2020 Presidential Election, and will do something about it.” Trump called Mastriano “a fighter like few others, and has been with me right from the beginning, and now I have an obligation to be with him.” Besides campaigning with key figures in Trump’s circle who have spread lies about the last election, Mastriano also floated a plan to let state lawmakers wipe out that election result and make their own decision on which candidate should receive the state’s electoral votes. As a result he was subpoenaed by the U.S. House committee investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Mastriano has said he would take the extraordinary step of requiring voters to “re-register” to vote. “We’re going to start all over again,” he said during a debate last month. Such a move is barred by the National Voter Registration Act and likely runs into significant protections under the federal — and possibly state — constitution and laws, constitutional law scholars say. @JoshShapiroPA Today, Donald Trump endorsed my most extreme opponent, Doug Mastriano. I’m Josh Shapiro — and I know the endorsements that will win this race are from the people of Pennsylvania, not a resident of Mar-a-Lago. Let’s win. 2:30 PM · May 14, 2022

As AG he has sued the Pa EPA because they refuse to enforce the law.
He is a hero who must win. |

are major trumpers. They kept their Trump 2020 sign out for months after he lost. They've had a Mastriano for gov sign out for over a month.

9. Mastriano has been running ads here in Philly the past couple weeks
The Republicans over here might lean towards McSwain since he is a "known" or Barletta if they decide to go with the "party recommendation". May turn out to be an odd split.

15. Dave White's from DelCo
I'd think he'd have a good showing in Phila and 'burbs as a choice for the sane Rs.
McSwain has blanketed the air here in western PA with ads on top of having been US Atty for the area, but seems to have gotten little traction from either. I thought Barletta would be stronger, but he must be "yesterday's news". |

16. White has been sortof a "non factor" with little buzz here since Delco went blue
And Montco's Joe Gale is almost non-existent as a candidate (thank goodness because he was and still is an ass). But then maybe it was also because of stuff like this -

@VoteJoeGalePA Instead of kissing rings and bowing down to party bosses and political insiders seeking the endorsement of the GOP swamp, I go directly to the voters. It’s your endorsement that counts on Tuesday! Image 3:32 PM · May 14, 2022 from Lancaster, PA This from someone who is an elected official meaning "a party insider". ![]() McSwain was loudly MAGA during his time as U.S. Attorney here and mainly got "dissed" because he didn't go after Philly for a fictitious fraudulent election. ![]() I was actually surprised by Barletta's poor showing since he ran against Casey just 4 years ago (although obviously lost). Am guessing since there were so many (including "high profile" ) people in the race, including Corman (until he dropped out), and with people like Mastriano doing road shows with Ghouliani, then Barletta couldn't get a word in edgewise. |

The PA Republican Party is trying to think up ways to take Mastriano down because that think he is too nuts to win the general and here comes Trump with an endorsement. I love it when this stuff happens to the other guys!

and last I heard, Mastriano and Barnette (who are supposedly "friends" and she has suddenly started "surging" against Oz and McCormick) are suddenly running as a (freak) "pair" for Governor/Senator.
