Republican senator compares women to sea turtles and eagles in speech against abortion rights
Source: Independent
Steve Daines made the remarks on the floor of the US Senate Abe Asher 6 hours ago Republican Steve Daines of Montana took to the floor of the US Senate on Tuesday to compare women to sea turtles and eagles in a speech advocating for the restriction of abortion rights. “Why do we have laws in place that protect the eggs of a sea turtle or the eggs of eagles?” Mr Daines said. “Because when you destroy an egg, you’re killing a pre-born baby sea turtle or a pre-born baby eagle. Yet when it comes to a pre-born human baby rather than a sea turtle, that baby will be stripped of all protections in all 50 states under the Democrats’ bill we will be voting on tomorrow.” The rhetorical gambit to compare people who have babies to animals comes in advance of Wednesday’s scheduled vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act — a bill that would protect abortion rights across the country in advance of the US Supreme Court’s expected ruling reversing Roe v Wade next month. The bill, which requires 60 votes to pass, is virtually certain to fail. But Chuck Schumer, leader of the Senate Democrats, has pressed forward with a vote anyway in an effort to force every member of the body to take a vote on an issue that could have significant political salience with the midterms approaching. 7. EXACTLY!!!
This level of stupid leaves me speechless. I'm talking dumbstruck, complete with glazed eyes, gaping mouth, and my brain flashing "DOES NOT COMPUTE" over and over again. I'm even having trouble composing this post.
On top of everything else that's wrong with this, somebody really needs to tell this imbecile that eagles and sea turtles are HATCHED, not born. ![]() |

12. But here's the thing. They think WHITE people are endangered.
Woven through Alito's opinion are references to the low supply of babies for couples who want to adopt. They're talking about white babies - who would be raised in affluent Christian Republican families.
The desire to adopt white babies has been a thing among white evangelical Christians for at least 30 years. They used to go to Russia and Romania to orphanages. I knew some of these families. They wanted blonde blue-eyed babies to raise as Christians. This is literally the Handmaid's Tale. In their vision, women will be forced to give birth. White babies will be adopted. Black and brown babies will probably be sold as laborers. Wait for it. |

13. I do wonder how they know what color the baby is before it's even born
Just because the woman is white doesn’t mean her baby is gonna be all white. It’s like biology doesn’t exist for these right wing nuts

19. That Was EXACTLY My First Thought.
Then, my brain broke for about an hour due to the level of stupid it took for any human* to say something like that.
*Without genome testing, by a reputable lab, and confirmed by at least one other, I cannot say for certain that Steve Daines (Q-Troglodyte) is actually human. He could be part lizard. And that would go a long way towards explaining his dumbassery. |

8. The other Senator there is Jon Tester (D)
and MT has had a long tradition of Democrats in the Senate and as governor. It is an unusual swing state (outside of Presidential elections) but a swing state nonetheless.

10. According to Senator Daines' logic, Congress should outlaw ovulation and menses.
Monthly periods result in the destruction of eggs representing the “pre-born,” which is not actually a thing, so women need to stop destroying those eggs! Republican voters seem to love stupid people.

11. I wish someone, accompanied by a notary public, would race up to these people as soon
as they stop their screed and get them to sign a document attesting to the number of children they are willing to adopt if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Get the number and ask them to sign it under oath. The fact is, these same characters don't want to part with a dime to help support the cause they parrot and if their young daughter is "in trouble," they'll have her in the car headed to the closest abortion clinic still open. It's all political bullshit at the expense of women.

Oh actually they will say anything to get their way. I doubt this guy has any consistent record of voting to protect wildLife during his career. And don't we not interfere if those bird or turtles destroy any eggs?
