No 'Leak' links: US National Archives blocks searches containing ‘WikiLeaks’

Source: RT

The public search engine for the US National Archives appears to be blocked for the term “WikiLeaks”. The whistleblower website has already lashed out at the move, saying the Archives has turned into “Orwell’s Ministry of Truth.”

An error message pops up every time a search is performed with the word “WikiLeaks”.

It’s not entirely clear when the US National Archives decided to block these searches.

The screenshot shown in the article indicates that the request URL has been blocked by the ISP through which the person is attempting to make the connection. The article was either written by someone without the first clue how things work, or was intended to be read by the technically illiterate.

No such display occurs when conducting. A search at arcweb.archives.gov

Sorry Charlie it does indicate that the National Archives blocked the search! As a independent third party, and a Network Administrator by trade, I just tested it. I know it's not blocked on my end because a search of wikileaks through Google or any other search engine works fine but at the National Archives it gives the same error the story references... Now since I would have had to place the "block" on our end I know it doesn't exist. The only idiotic posting here was your response, no offense.

The URL you requested has been blocked

The page you have requested has been blocked, because the URL is banned.

It wouldn't be surprising if there was a misconfigured block of outbound access to Wikileaks, but you are not attempting the search performed in the article.

....the bi-weekly "JuliAn Assange is being persecuted" story perhaps?

Curious that the actual website or link on with the search was attempted isn't mentioned.

That's at http://arcweb.archives.gov

Funny, if I just search for "wiki," I get some results, but "wikileaks," nada.

Agent Mike, that he doesn't need to unblock me like he apparently did with you.

I'm not interested in what the National Archives have on Wikileaks. And if I were, I could easily get around this little obstacle by using Google site search:

site:archives.gov wikileaks

Uh, for now at least, I suppose.

The URL you requested has been blocked

The page you have requested has been blocked, because the URL is banned.

URL = arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/ExternalSearch?hitLimit=2000&searchExpression=wikileaks

How incredibly stupid and petty! Just like all the rest of it. The smear campaign, the lies, the obfuscation. It's all so obvious and transparent. But, hey, as long as they reach those who are less informed and not inclined to disobey, the majority may very well be on their side, LOL.
