Japan protests to US over Okinawa 'assault'

Source: bbc

Japan has protested to the US after another incident in Okinawa allegedly involving a member of the US military.

A US serviceman reportedly entered an apartment above a bar and hit a teenage boy. The man fell from a window and was taken to hospital, local reports said.

The Foreign Ministry lodged a complaint with US envoy John Roos, Kyodo said.

The incident comes as all US troops in Japan are under a night-time curfew following an alleged rape.

13. Why? The Japanese on Japanese crime rate in Okinawa is much higher.

The Japanese seem to be more upset about a minority (US military) that is more law-abiding than their own people.

Really, these bases should be moved off the island. Its far too crowded and the people resent the US presence. Maybe they should construct a new airbase in a quiet part of northern Australia.

and drone bases on their own soil.

If another foreign military power wanted to build military bases on US soil how do you think most of us would feel? I can assure you that plenty of South Koreans, Japanese, Germans, Italians, and Australians DO NOT welcome the US military presence in their country because they view it as a violation of their country's sovereignty.

How do you think bin Laden felt in the early 90s when the US built military on Saudi Arabian soil? Hmm, perhaps that was one of his motivations for attacking the US?

I think more people would view US foreign policies much differently if foreign powers decided to impose similar military policies on our country.

Let other governments build military bases on our soil, dictate our domestic policies, and seek to control us then see how people would react.

And no I am not being pro keep the bases open nor pro close them now, just pointing on that there are in fact people who dont oppose the bases either.

when the USSR appeared to be a threat other nations wanted the bases.
Now China and India are the perceived major threats both by the US government and by some other nations governments so those governments and the US government are trying to discourage a potential threat from becoming a real one.
Is keeping these old bases open and or establishing new bases the right course? I do not know, what I do know is it could be argued by some that it worked before.

An adversarial attitude to every rising economy will lead to the downfall of ours, not it's prolongment.
