France will provide defensive equipment to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a written speech to the country’s two legislative bodies Friday. The speech did not detail what the equipment would be.

Macron wrote that France will provide Ukraine with a “additional budgetary assistance of 300 million euros” and “will provide the defensive material they need."

France has not previously provided arms to Ukraine but has provided humanitarian aid and budgetary support.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed for citizens to take up arms against Russian troops and have been distributing guns and ammunition to reservists.

3. Excellent. Germany should do the same, and the US should step shipments.

I am still of the opinion that the US and NATO should use drones and perhaps some air support to aid Ukraine now. Trying to oust Putin once he has Kyiv and has installed a puppet government will be infinitely harder than stopping him now. Plus, NATO countries will not like having Putin’s nuclear arsenal stationed on the borders with Poland and other NATO states. Putin is now isolated and irrational. He may well believe that a nuclear war will be his final claim to fame as he wipes out as much of Europe and even the US as he can, even knowing it would be his last act.
