GOP candidate among 3 killed in W.Va. weather
Source: AP (Yahoo News)
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) A West Virginia legislative candidate is the third person in the state reported to be killed in accidents related to weather from superstorm Sandy.
George Rose tells The Associated Press that his 60-year-old father, John Rose Sr., was checking fences on his deer farm in Barbour County on Tuesday when he was struck by a falling tree limb. He was a Republican candidate for the House of Delegates.
Barbour County Emergency Services Director Cindy Hart says another man in his 60s died Tuesday while shoveling snow. The storm also was blamed for the death of a 40-year-old woman whose car collided with a cement truck Monday in Tucker County.

Granted, there are some politicians I'd like to see lightning strike...but only in my irrational anger at times.

(6 posts)If you say no, I don't believe you.
I consider myself a good person, and I am. But I'm still human with those pesky emotions that make me human and make me embarrassed about having them. I try to rise above the pettiness, or at least hide it from anyone within ear shot. I try to even hide it from myself at times. ...have a bad thought-don't think about it-think about something nice and stop being a "bad" person. Bad thoughts don't make me a bad person. Acting on those thoughts is a whole other story just ask any normal republican.
I feel bad for anyone who has died or going through the horrific aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Went through too many hurricanes myself in Florida to ever wish that sort of thing on anyone. But I'm not so certain I am being honest about not wishing it on anyone even now.
So if I were really honest, I'd take all the bankers, right-wingers, et al, and drop them off right now in the middle of the aftermath and watch them beg for FEMA and free health care when they figure out they have no job to go to because it's been washed away and no money or insurance to pay for the broken leg they just got from that falling tree, and no house to live in because it's gone and the insurance company found a way to not pay you like they did to thousands in New Orleans. And while I'm at it, beg the government to give them money to get on their feet would be icing on the cake.
You can bank on many of those bankers and right-wingers are right now as we speak--watching the millions of displaced people like they are ants. Sure there's nice bankers and probably some "goodhearted" right wingers? Not even sure about that anymore either. Is there such a good thing as a goodhearted stingy racist sociopathic bully?
Surely most those people suffering on the ground right now do NOT deserve what has happened them.
But I would be less than honest if I said I wasn't relieved to see he was not a democrat. Notice I did not say I would be relieved he is a republican. There's a difference. A big one.

(7,349 posts)I don't really care about him or his political persuasion, and I see no reason to pretend that I do, beyond wishing that he rests in peace, and that's more a social conditioning thing than any real feeling on my part.
It's sad in a general sort of way, but his political persuasion doesn't make me less sad, nor would I be more sad if he were a Democrat.
MrDiaz
(731 posts)because something horrible happen to somebody and it wasn't someone on your "team" is a sad way to view things. I feel sorry for you, that would be like a Mexican saying that he was relieved that a white or black person died rather than a Mexican. Its hard to see how this is one of the first things ANYONE would think about after a tragedy like this happens. And saying that every republican is "goodhearted stingy racist sociopathic bully" is only true if you apply a stereotype to all republicans. I can't stand them but it is VERY hard to believe that ALL of them are goodhearted stingy racist sociopathic bullies... and i happen to believe that ALL stereotypes are bad, not just the ones they use.

As would I be less than honest if I said that party affiliation either adds to or subtracts from any joy or sorrow I may towards a person fortunes or misfortunes.
As for one's belief regarding the honesty of my statement, it matters little to me.

Don't know the guy so not sure if he's really a scum bag or not. Hard to say. Some of the Republicans are coming around and denouncing the extremists in their own party and THEY can make much more of an impact.
BESIDES I really like beating them fair and square. THAT is all we're really asking for, not a win by default/death.
I DO agree that these big money folks could use some real world economic lessons.

(56 posts)got smashed up in hurricane Ike, Katrina, Andrew etc. This hand wringing about six hour gas lines kind of bemuses me, that was the norm in Houston for about two weeks after Ike, but didn't get near this kind of attention. And plenty of the aforementioned rightwingers live in Houston I might add.
Nature is no respecter of persons. Be prepared or be prepared to suffer. I went for two weeks without going to the gas station or store, because I'd planned ahead on Ike. Granted, urban dwellers are much less prepared for this type of occurance, due not the least to the fact you can't store a generator and 100 gallons of gas in an apartment.
I don't wish harm on anyone, regardless of political ideology.

(15,502 posts)what the hell is a "deer farm"?
Divine Discontent
(21,056 posts)did you see that sad horrific story he told last night about his dog cornering and killing a deer a couple days ago?
And yeah, no idea what a deer farm is, apparently, a place where they raise deer for food. Didn't know those existed.
llmart
(15,502 posts)and I'm glad I didn't. My wussy dog cornered a groundhog once and I couldn't separate them. All I saw was blood and I was praying it wasn't from my dog. It wasn't. She got the better of the groundhog, who crawled under the fence and probably died somewhere else. It made me sad. She's also killed birds and bunnies. I have never been able to break her of that hunting instinct.
Divine Discontent
(21,056 posts)happened while he was away. My bro asked, did they feed him? lol.. I guess that's an honest question, but your story about yours explains its hard to take that hunting instinct out of them. They see something running away, they chase it.
thanks!

(15,502 posts)usually she's a big wuss. If a little dog yips at her the hair goes up on the back of her neck and she acts all frightened.
I've seen her stalk something in the yard like a cat. She'll get a bead on something and just stand stock still without blinking an eye for 15 minutes and as soon as it moves she leaps off the deck and is after it.

(15,374 posts)Well, you're only fighting a few million years of evolution and a fe thousand of purposeful breeding....
If they ever breed the "hunting instinct" out of dogs, they won't be dogs any more. (Same goes for cats.)
llmart
(15,502 posts)I've had several dogs and this is the first one that gets down like she's stalking something. I didn't get this one as a puppy, so whoever had her may have trained her to do this.

(22 posts)you can't keep a dog from being a dog. its in their soul. just like a snake or a hawk or a cheating husband (or wife) - they are gonna do it cause its what they were born to do. you cant change it.
glad the dog got the better of that g'hog. and glad it wasnt a raccoon cause they can be real mean and scratch your dog real bad.
anyway, i dont want to see anyone die from tree limbs or what have you - either democrats or republicans. to want someone to die is just wrong.

(2,477 posts)about 10 minutes later we heard the dog yelping like hell, we looked out the front window and a rather large rabbit was kicking the shit out of this poor poodle. Dog was more embarrassed than hurt, but I gotta say, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
