Nick Saban and Jerry West sign letter pushing West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin to support voting right
Source: Yahoo! Sports
Alabama coach Nick Saban and NBA legend Jerry West are among five prominent West Virginia sports figures pushing Sen. Joe Manchin (D) to support the Freedom to Vote Act.
The letter, also signed by former West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, and former Buffalo Bills linebacker Darryl Talley, urges Congress to exercise its Constitutional responsibility to enact laws that set national standards for the conduct of Federal elections and for decisions that determine election outcomes.

I don't know if this is going to matter, but it's at least good to see a coach from Alabama stand in favor of voting rights for Americans.

(9 posts)I was all set to get excited, but it was not to be. Seems Saban is Manchin's best friend on this matter and is happy to urge Manchin to take...hmm, the exact position Manchin's already taken. Costs Saban less than nothing, after all.

Saban, who grew up in West Virginia with Manchin, included a footnote in the version he signed adding that he does not support eliminating the filibuster, a source familiar told CNN's Kaitlan Collins.
"Coach Saban is not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster in the Senate. He believes this will destroy the checks and balances we must have in our Democracy."

(8,911 posts)There is a history of brotherly friendship between them.
When Saban's father passed away, Saban would often consult with
John Manchin, Joe's father.

I have a degree from UA, and I still root for UGA. Anyway, it would be nice if there were a concerted effort on a few moderate republicans. Though they seem to be pretty lockstep, the move will at least help galvanize a few of our voters.
