Austria to start fines for unvaccinated in March, Nehammer says
Source: Bloomberg
Austria will impose fines on those without Covid-19 vaccinations from mid-March after a transition phase that starts in February, said Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
People unwilling to get inoculated will face penalties of as much as 3,600 euros ($4,108), the Austrian leader told reporters on Sunday. The mandate will apply to all adults living in the country except when a medical exemption is granted. 1. An Australian told me in the 90's they are fined for not voting in elections
Like $125 right on the tax return. Don't know if that policy continues. Wonder if that would work here. It's not a payment to vote, it's a penalty. Or would SCOTUS consider a tax a negative payment. Hmm.

2. I wouldn't support that
Suppose you're 18 and hate politics? They might go into the voting booth and flip a coin.

3. "go into the voting booth and flip a coin"
which would give similar results to our current electorate, sadly.

8. Statistically, the coin flips change nothing.
However, the non coin flips that vote due to this should be significant enough to be meaningful.

12. True
Some might go into the voting booth and pick the one with the better sounding name though.

16. Lets say your a citizen with a civic duty to participate
And lets say voting doesnt require choosing an option from any given race, just showing up and signing in. Ive known a few folk who regularly voted for ficus in certain races.

6. we need to find the resolve to begin taking those steps here
We have solid Democratic support of it, but frankly not nearly enough to really do it. We need to be at 80% or higher support among Democrats and at least 50% of independents. There can't be any doubt among us that force is a necessary part of the solution.
Start with the basics: mandatory masking on public transport, insurance fines, bans from clubs and leagues, etc. Focus on populations with low financial resources who cannot afford to fight us in court. Turn compliance into a virtue. Once they get used to it they'll help us to enforce it on the middle and upper classes. After we lay this humble foundation we can pursue the more aggressive steps towards 100% mandatory vaccination. Australia is the model. Use them as the example for where we need to be in six months. |

15. They would not have to bother with that.
The GOP supreme court would rule the fines unconstitutional.

13. Or doesn't have the money to pay it.
Do you want to be in the position of making people choose between paying the fine instead of rent ?
