(CNN) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will miss the Remembrance Sunday service in central London after spraining her back, Buckingham Palace said Sunday.
"The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today's Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph. Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service," a statement said.
Prince Charles will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on the Queen's behalf, as in previous years.
Buckingham Palace had confirmed on Thursday that the 95-year-old monarch was well enough to attend the ceremony to commemorate those who have died in conflicts.
Queen Elizabeth's decision to pull out of the Remembrance Day Sunday service after spraining her back is unrelated to her doctor's recent advice to rest, according to a royal source.

I'm not a big fan of the royal family, and I don't wait breathlessly to hear of their every move. I think we can see the future in this article, though.

(1,154 posts)Straining anything is easy enough to do at that age. I was one year old when her dad passed and she became Queen. I'm seventy now. It's going to be a seismic shock when the inevitable happens. She has done an amazing job, very few missteps, and timely words of encouragement when needed. God bless her.

(6,974 posts)As wary as I am of polling (YouGov poll), I believe that once the Queen passes, the British monarchy will start it's decent into into something totally different, then it will eventually die out. A friend from England whose lived here in Los Angeles for 20 years with teen grandchildren still living in England tells me that they can see the Monarchy slowly die out after the Queen passes as well. He said with people losing homes, tuition costs soaring through the roof for their kids, with the standard of living costs going way up, and with the iniquity of it all--people are souring on the British Monarchy. Friends in the US military stationed in England with teen grandchildren tell me that their grandchildren could care less about the British Monarchy. This friend's 13 year old grandson said the Monarchy is really silly. His Nana/my friend, said her grandson asked her "Nana, why are they so rich? Do we pay for them to be rich and have all those houses?" From America, I also feel that the younger generations really don't have much of an emotional type of attachment to the British Monarchy. Not even Kate and Wills can "save" them in their current state IMHO.

Young British people want to ditch the monarchy, poll suggests.
LONDON, May 21 (Reuters) - Young people in Britain no longer think the country should keep the monarchy and more now want an elected head of state, with their mood souring over the last couple of years, a poll on Friday showed.
The British monarchy traces its history back to William the Conqueror who invaded England in 1066, though royals ruled the patchwork of kingdoms which stretched across what became England, Scotland and Wales for centuries before that.
According to the survey by YouGov, 41% of those aged 18 to 24 thought there should now be an elected head of state compared to 31% who wanted a king or queen.
That was a reversal of sentiment from two years ago, when 46% preferred the monarchy to 26% who wanted it replaced.
However, overall the survey had better news for Queen Elizabeth, 95, and the royal family, with 61% favouring the monarchy while just under a quarter thought it should be replaced with an elected figure.
The last few months have been difficult for the Windsors with the death of the queen's 99-year-old husband Prince Philip in April and the crisis that followed the interview by Elizabeth's grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey in March.
Previous polls have indicated an age divide, with younger generations holding more favourable views of Harry and Meghan than their older counterparts who had overwhelmingly negative feelings about them.
While there is no possibility of an end to the monarchy while the queen remains on the throne, there is concern for the royals about a declining support among younger Britons.
The survey of 4,870 adults found 53% of those aged between 25-49 supported keeping the monarchy, down five percentage points from a similar poll in 2019, while support for an elected head was up 4 points.
