You sanction us again? We'll freeze you, Lukashenko warns Europe, threatening to cut gas supply.
Source: Washington Post
MOSCOW Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko threatened Thursday to cut gas supplies to Europe as the European Union weighs new sanctions on Belarusian officials and entities, in a sharp escalation of tensions over a migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border.
Lukashenko told Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko that if Europe imposes new sanctions, you must not forgive them anything.
Warning that Belarus would not tolerate the closure of its borders, he told the leadership of Poland, Lithuanians and other brainless figures to think before speaking.
European leaders blame Lukashenko for orchestrating the crisis in retaliation for European sanctions. They accuse him of opening Belarusian borders to migrants, mainly from the Middle East and North Africa, who are trying to reach Europe through Belarus.

If you have to import from elsewhere until such time then do so.

They didn't do very well with Castro, though.
Hundreds of tries.
They even tried the old exploding cigar trick.

(7,402 posts)There is a people crisis in the world stemming from the failure of governments following a trickle down policy that puts all of the money in the pockets of the super wealthy, whether they are alogarchs or ruthless dictators. Here we are seeing a clash of money that could further disrupt the world order. Expect to see more of this. Eastern Europe and South America are two areas of concern in this regard. Immigrants are not the cause of the problem they are the victims of the problem.

(3,334 posts)It would be foolhardy for the U.S. to try anything militarily there. Assassinating Lukashenko would be illegal and also would not help. Putin would just replace him. Ukraine will also join the USSR soon because they know NATO won't help them. And then the Baltic States. Also if we attack Belarus, there go the 2022 and 2024 elections. The U.S. has its sphere of influence and Russia theirs.

He's already crushed internal dissent, now he's provoking and saber rattling on his Northern border? He's not doing that without Putin's permission.

If that's even possible.

I've changed my mind up nuclear power. It's the only energy source that will get us out of this mess.
Solar and wind power will only increase our long term dependence on natural gas, which will only increase the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.
In places like Germany this dependence is a political time bomb.
