A West Coast storm breaks records as another storm threatens 70 million Americans in the eastern US
Source: CNN
The threat zone Monday stretches from the southern Appalachians to New York City, according to the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center.
Damaging winds will be the main threat, with some isolated threats of large hail or tornadoes.
Flash flooding is another concern. From Massachusetts to New Jersey, flash flood watches will be in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon.

(11,248 posts)Without the sidewalk seating I would have never eaten out. Now we spend $200-500 every weekend sitting outside at restaurants. I say keep it permanently!!!

Personally, depends on the sidewalk. If it's narrow, then I object to having the sidewalk blocked. If it's wide, makes no difference.

(32,626 posts)that shacks are taking up all your sidewalk space?
a private business has put up a temporary structure on public way

(32,626 posts)we've had dining al fresco in the summer for years. Never seen any shacks, but that must be something in your area.

let people stroll around and let restaurants serve customers at small tables beneath umbrellas. The scene has been further beautified with potted palms and the like.
De gustibus non disputandum, and all that, but a lot of people like it and think it looks charming.
Sorry about your personal experiences.

(2,787 posts)Those "Temporary Shacks" exploded around NYC, but now they are quietly trying to sidestep the rigorous approval process and claim no impacts. First they are reducing further parking, which even if you don't drive, service providers like plumbers, electricians and such all need to park. Second these shacks will be a disaster when a vehicle hits them as most are in the street not on the sidewalk. Third the wholesale encroachment upon the walkways isn't good, except for the drunk kids and the bar & restaurant owners.

(14,818 posts)I'd like them to stay until we get the pandemic #s down even quite further.
I've been able to dine out a few times since Sept '20 except Dec through Mid-March. It felt sooo good to be able to do that since at 68 I have to be more cautious.

I'm in favor of pandemic and Summer Shacks. Not permanent ones. They are really bad for us in those neighborhoods.

(2,031 posts)It (the rain) wasn't that bad actually. I guess up north got the brunt. Hope they don't get slides though.

(5,088 posts)Every time I watch the weather, it talks about California, and the northeast. If there is a hurricane, we hear about that, but otherwise, it seems that New England and California are the only two sections of the country that get inclement weather.

(1,239 posts)I spent the morning cleaning up.
The front of the house was a mess from all the broken branches, and clumps of leaves that were all over the place!
There were branches from our tree across the street, in several of our neighbors front yards!
I leave in the San Francisco Bay Area.
