California now only state to improve to 'moderate' level of COVID transmission, CDC says

LOS ANGELES -- California, which has some of the strictest mask and vaccination mandates in the country, has improved to a "moderate" rate of transmission for COVID-19, the only one of the 50 states to drop to that level, according to the latest CDC data.

California also shows the lowest death rate in the country from COVID-19, with 0.2 deaths per 100,000 reported in the last seven days. As the most populous state, California has reported more than 70,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Forty-four states and U.S. territories remain in the "high" level of transmission, on average seeing a worsening of their case rates in the last seven days, according to the CDC.

There are eight states and territories in the "substantial" level. In the "moderate" level are one state, California, and two territories, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Unfortunately, if it bleeds, it leads. Thus, rather than showcase stories regarding how science and good policies can reduce transmission and save lives, the media will focus on an extreme right wing minority in red states who are pushing the most outrageous conspiracies and lies.

The CDC site lists CA transmission as "substantial".

That's better than the country as a whole, but in the same category with LA, CT, and FL.

Being roughly equal to FL rebuts the argument about specific policy decisions (since the two couldn't be less alike in that regard).

On edit - Whoops! I left off Hawaii (with the lowest transmission rate of any state).

…but it is surprising given that CA has SF and LA, which are two very densely populated areas.

That being said, it really is different. I went to AZ and NV and most folks are not wearing masks inside, yet in CA, they are.

3. As of 10/19 (yesterday) California was still at "substantial". As an aside, I heard yesterday....

They must be lying about the cause of deaths.

...it was constantly pointed out how the majority of California did not like the lockdowns, masks, etc. Well no shit Sherlock. Who would like that? I don't even like it. Just know its necessary for the time being.

But get rid of Newsom so we could be like Florida or Texas? Oh hell no!
