Kinzinger open to issuing subpoenas for members of Congress, including McCarthy

Source: ABC News

Rep. Adam Kinzinger said Sunday he supports issuing subpoenas to anyone who has information about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and what action former President Donald Trump took -- even members of his own party, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

"I would support subpoenas to anybody that can shed light on that, if that's the leader that's the leader," Kinzinger told ABC "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl. "Anybody with parts of that information, with inside knowledge, can probably expect to be talking to the committee."

"I would expect to see a significant number of subpoenas for a lot of people," Kinzinger added.

Kinzinger, R-Ill., said that while some members of Congress attempt to brush off the events of Jan. 6 because it's "politically inconvenient," the committee is determined to get a full account of the truth.

If he supports this you know the rest of the committee does.

4. He'll ignore the subpoena

and howl about how it's all politically motivated. I think he will fight tooth and nail to not testify.

2. Here's the problem. Cons lie, always, about everything, always.

So unless con A is willing to tell the truth about how con B worked with others to conspire to violently overthrow the government, which clearly many of them in the House and Senate did, nothing will come of any of this.

We cant survive a system based on the rule of law if nearly half the country says they dont believe in the rule of law or the Constitution or the country itself, and they have said that.

This is why I am so pessimistic.

8. Yes. A good government implies a certain level of trust between the players.

The russians/plutocrats have managed to drive wedges between these players.

I remember the fairly convivial atmosphere of the US Senate (and even House) during the 60's/70's. There was definitely a force that was working to destroy most of the attempts to reconcile, reach across the aisle.

6. Agree. Inconsistent testimony will be a strategy.

I wonder though how much FBI data will help. Cell phone records and the like. A lot of people could be in minor hot water over lying about Jan 6.

9. I doubt there is a law against it. Just noblesse oblige. And the trumpfs are no nobles. Nail them!

Otherwise we are saying certain "classes" are outside of the law. Even the worst classes if they are rich - or pretend to be rich, or have very rich supporters, or know certain things that might be embarrassing, or are too old, or ...

Hell of a fair system we have here, heh?

11. I think that would be extraordinarily bad (for us)

The format of the questions will be terrible for us. Each member will have just a few minutes to ask questions, and Trump will be able to go on and on. Every second of that will be must see TV, and they won't be able to interrupt Trump every few seconds like they would / could with a normal hostile witness.

And what will they get him to say? He put out tweets asking for peace, he put out a video, he said they were 'peacefully' going to march at the rally before anything happened at the capital. It's not like they can ask him about his taxes, or anything unrelated to the subpoena.

And Trump's going to get up there and call it a partisan committee. He'll say that Dems impeached him twice, and couldn't make it stick, so now they're just going after him again.

12. Having T***** testify would be a very, very bad idea.

It would be providing him a forum to spew his shit, and no usable evidence would be discovered.

If they do decide to bring him in, I hope they combine everyone's time and bring in a non-partisan prosecutor to question TFG without interruption.

10. McCarthy will absolutely go if he's issued a subpoena.

He'll have the bored, exasperated Hillary Clinton face on. He'll be irreverent. He'll say he called Trump to see what could be done, and that Trump told him it was bad too. He'll talk about getting his other coworkers to go to a shelter or seek safety. He'll say he didn't tell anyone to try and implement a coup.

When it's over, he'll go before the cameras and say it's a travesty what happened on Jan 6, but that this is a partisan committee, more interested in casting blame and making Republicans look bad than finding the truth.

I feel like the threat of this committee is more valuable to us than the actual work product of the committee.

13. Good idea. Sweat that mofo for about 11 hours.

If he refuses to answer a subpoena issued by the very body of which he is a member, expel him and throw his sorry ass in jail.
