Biden announces international COVID-19 vaccine sharing plan

Source: AP

The U.S. will donate 75% of its unused COVID-19 vaccines to the U.N.-backed COVAX global vaccine sharing program, President Joe Biden announced Thursday.

The White House unveiled the allocation for sharing the first 25 million doses with the world. The U.S. has said it plans to share 80 million vaccine doses globally by the end of June. The administration says 25% will be kept in reserve for emergencies and for the U.S. to share directly with allies and partners.

Of the first tranche of 25 million doses, the White House says about 19 million will go to COVAX, with approximately 6 million for South and Central America, 7 million for Asia, and 5 million for Africa.

The doses mark a substantial — and immediate — boost to the lagging COVAX effort, which to date has shared just 76 million doses with needy countries.

President Joe Biden delivers remarks on his administration's coronavirus response from the White House yesterday.

“As long as this pandemic is raging anywhere in the world, the American people will still be vulnerable,” Biden said.

“And the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated at home.”

This jerks think they can wait this out.

2. So much so, that we're already approaching vaccine saturation - given the plummeting daily doses

Daily dose numbers in the U.S., per 100 people (7-day moving avg.), are down to 3.3 - which is similar to many 3rd world countries, who are dependent on imports as well as constrained by costs.

And we still only have around half our adult population fully vaccinated. The 3rd world countries, obviously, have much less (typically less than 10%).

The main reason is exactly what you pointed out: MAGATS and the otherwise misinformed refusing their shot.

Of course though, when they or a loved one get sick - you know they're the first to bang on the hospital counter, demanding an ICU bed.

"I'm sorry sir - but our ICU beds are at full capacity at the moment. Try Mercy Hospital."

"Mercy! You mean with all those n***ers!?!"

3. I said this months ago - give it other countries and the MAGAts will come scrambling for a free shot

Especially if you frame it that way - which I doubt Biden will. Letting another country, maybe a "shithole" country get their free vaccine? That should put a little pressure on.

4. I know Colombia could use some...

None of my online friends in Colombia have been vaccinated as yet.
