Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announces run for attorney general against Ken Paxton

Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced Wednesday that he is running for attorney general, challenging fellow Republican Ken Paxton with a sharp focus on Paxton's legal troubles.

"Enough is enough, Ken," Bush said during a campaign kickoff at a downtown Austin bar. "You've brought way too much scandal and too little integrity to this office. And as a career politician for 20 years, it's time for you to go."

The 2022 matchup could be the marquee statewide primary of this election cycle, and former President Donald Trump already looms large. He said in a statement last week that he would issue an endorsement in the race — and do so "in the not-so-distant future." Bush told reporters after his announcement that he has asked Trump for his endorsement.

Both Bush and Paxton have histories with Trump. Bush — son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — was the only prominent member of his famous political family to support Trump in 2016, and Trump has praised him as the only Bush "that got it right." Paxton has positioned himself as one of the most pro-Trump attorneys general — especially after the November election, when Paxton led an unsuccessful lawsuit challenging Trump's reelection loss in four battleground states.

5. And certainly not a Trump supporting Bush

This family really needs to find some different career choices. Politics has seen quite enough of them.

When I look at the entire family, I see some of the dullest, unexceptional people on the planet. No great writers, public speakers, or brilliant minds. They had a name, a certain amount of traditional prestige, and money, but minus all that, they are painfully ordinary and forgettable. Without the family influence and wealth, they probably would have become insurance salesmen or factory workers. I can see Poppy Bush as the former and GW as the latter.

I read a book on the Bush dynasty years ago and the only really memorable character was George Herbert Walker, but that was because of his gambling, drinking, excess, and nasty temper. How this family produced a powerful senator and two presidents is mindboggling. But then again, look what the Trumps gave us!

2. What the hell does George Prescott Bush know about integrity?

He kisses the ass of the guy who humiliated his dad. He’s barely better than Ted Cruz (Cruz is still worse because of that whole insurrection thing).

8. Voters here know Paxton is a crook. They just keep electing him.

Every Republican politician in Texas is corrupt, so it’s a choice between degrees of corruption. Bush is positioning himself for a future as governor and then on to the Oval Office. Damn, Texas needs to turn blue now!

6. Joe Jaworski for Texas Attorney General

The only and best candidate is Joe. The contest between Paxton and Bush will be for Donald Trump’s endorsement, not to determine who’s best for Texas.

Check out the person that all of us Texans need to stop this damn madness.

12. Wow

Running to replace a huge criminal that is the top crime fighter in the state. And this Bush is seeking support from the biggest criminal in the history of presidents, hell not just presidents, in society. Only can happen in the party of law and order. And that is what the brain dead’s will fully support. We desperately need to trim the Bush’s, if not completely eliminate them. These Bush’s are more like evasive weeds. Really starting to hate the damn country. This is what happened to the country to come out of my 8 years military service. And mostly from assholes that never served a day. God ain’t Blessin MurKKKa. Not at all. In God we trust. Yea, right. Trust lost in trust never again replaced.
