53 percent of Republicans say Trump is true president: poll

Source: The Hill

Most Republicans believe that Donald Trump is still the rightful president and that the results of the 2020 election were tarnished by illegal voting, according to a new Reuters-Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

The survey found that just over half of Republicans — 53 percent — think that Trump remains the “true president,” despite losing to President Biden last year by roughly 7 million votes nationally. Even more — 61 percent — believe either strongly or somewhat that the 2020 election was “stolen” from the former president.

Similarly, 56 percent of Republican respondents said that the presidential election had been marred by illegal voting or “election rigging,” a baseless claim that Trump has made repeatedly in the more than six months since Election Day.

The poll, which was conducted from May 17 to 19, underscores the influence that Trump still has over much of the GOP’s electorate. Despite losing reelection in November, he has continued to insist that the election had been rigged against him — a claim that has prompted Republican legislators across the country to rewrite election laws and review the results of the presidential race.

Unfortunately, depopulated states elect presidents through the electoral college, not the popular vote. While I think most of us would like to see this changed, it has not been changed and Dumdum took office.

IOW, Democratic grumbling had some legitimacy. Their grumbling does not, since Dumdum lost both the popular and the EC votes.

Some people are just soreheads and bad losers. I remember about the same percentage refusing to acknowledge Nixon's resignation and wanted him to run again because he'd been robbed of his rightful office.

I should also point out that there was only grumbling on our side. Their side tried to overthrow the government. Big difference there.

Republicans make up about 35% of the overall electorate at this point, with Democrats at about 42% and independents making about the balance at about 23%. This means that roughly 20% of the electorate is convinced that the election was stolen. Given the source (The Hill, which has a a moderate right-wing bias) and the fact that 20% of the electorate believe that only Republicans SHOULD be President, and well ...

from treasonous, seditious traitor to our democracy. TO HELL with ALL of them. I have a peace sign on my hat. I was in line at my store of record, this pig saw it and chuckled and mumbled to his young friend. I met his eyes and all I saw was hate. I said I believe in peace, but if it's a war you want, a war you get. His eyes dropped from mine his friend turned away and I turned my back on the GD cowards. Both POS in my book.

I got an approving smile from the person in front of me. I am not afraid of these clowns, won't ever be.

at its beck and call along with a propaganda cable network and associated amplifiers on the net and radio, as well as an egotistical leader who wants to maintain a personality cult. How much of the country does the GOP control? They appear capable of restricting voting in about half of the country-- that's a lot of power.

The exit polls from the squeaker-states that made all the difference in 2016 didn't really contradict the actual results, so I was not among the electoral college deniers like some people.

We are in an era of liars. As long as you are not under oath, you can lie, lie, lie and never tell the truth. This is what I noticed about trump and his followers. They have no obligation to be honest anymore. If they are talking to the media, lie. If they are talking to a pollster, lie. If they are speaking with a democratic or a liberal, lie. As long as they do not have to swear under oath, they will lie. They know trump lost, they know the capitol riot was just that, a riot. And they also know who caused it and how many people died because of it. But if you ask them, they will lie. And now, they're working their way through the states, if they don't like something, write a piece of legislation against it and pass it into law. The only way you're going to get the truth out of them is to be a fly on the wall. This is why dems should not negotiate because they'll only be negotiating with trump. Whatever they want to do, infrastructure, 1/6 commission, and any other laws, the dems should just "do it" without republican support. Do while we still have the power. They deserve it.
