COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Dozens more men are suing Ohio State over the universitys failure to stop sexual abuse and misconduct decades ago by team doctor Richard Strauss.
They echo claims filed previously by over 400 men, many of whom allege they were groped during required medical exams or while seeking treatment for unrelated ailments. New claims from at least 41 plaintiffs were filed in two federal lawsuits on Friday and one on Monday, which marked two years since a report from a law firm investigation concluded university employees were aware of concerns about Strauss as early as 1979 but didnt stop him.
With this suit, plaintiffs seek to hold OSU accountable for its failures, and to ensure that something like this can never happen again, lawyers wrote in one of the new cases.
Strauss, who died in 2005, has been accused of abusing young men throughout his two decades at the school.

An Ohio State team doctor sexually abused at least 177 male students from 1979 to 1996, and school officials failed to take appropriate action despite being aware of numerous reports of the physicians misconduct over the 17-year period, according to an investigative report released Friday.
The abuse included athletes from at least 15 sports and encompassed other students who saw physician Richard Strauss at the schools student health center and an off-campus clinic.
According to the report, the school had knowledge of sexually abusive treatment from Strauss as early as 1979, but reports about Strauss' conduct were not elevated beyond the Athletics Department or Student Health until 1996.
The report found male students regularly complained that Strauss routinely performed excessive and seemingly medically unnecessary genital exams, regardless of the medical condition the student-patients presented.
. . .
While some former Ohio State wrestlers have publicly said that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) must have known about the abuse during Jordans tenure as an assistant wrestling coach from 1987 to 1995, the report doesnt mention Jordan by name.

(16,692 posts)I contributed to the Dems' campaigns, even if I can't vote for them. I am sick of the r'd being chosen by their party to represent their districts. I casn't name an r weho isn't venal, crooked, perverted, stupid or all of the above.
When the election comes around again, I will contribute to the Dems. However, I hope by then that jordan, like the scab he is, drops off the political body.

(16,692 posts)and were mandated by a court to be redrawn. r's are in charge and said they couldn't do it by 2020 election. The districts are now supposed to be redrawn by 2022, but I haven't heard that there is any action. I imagine that the crooked r's will put it off again and again, and we'll have scum like jordan forever.
I wish someone would sue the State of Ohio about the gerrymandering.

(70,291 posts)Yes, thanx to the Koch Brothers and ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council)
who draw up those districts. In 2012 Obama won the state comfortably and Sherrod
Brown won his senate race by 10 to 12 points (aka more democrats voted) but 12 of
the 15 congressional races were won by republicans.

(1,924 posts)the path that district follows is as crooked as Jordan.
Notice how the district neatly sidesteps the urban areas of Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo.

(70,291 posts)This is my district OH's 12th .... It neatly goes around any black populations in Columbus but still
has a finger into Columbus so Mary Jo Kilroy's (D Congress Critter & friend) house is included.
It too skips the western part of Mansfield where black people live.

(32,356 posts)Whether or not Jim Jordan knew about Strauss, in any case he didn't have the authority to investigate or fire Dr. Strauss. The university administration did, and they didn't do the job.
We learned the same thing at Penn State with the Gerry Sandusky case. People who knew what he was doing, looked the other way. It's not right and it cannot continue. The example must be made now. If that includes Jim Jordan then so be it, but at that time he wasn't in charge.
