2. A very large crowd.

I hate crowds, because anyone caught in a crowd has to go where the crowd is "surging."

I've seen the effects at rock concerts, soccer games, etc.

9. As I learned during an AC/DC concert many years ago...

... when I was in high school, repeatedly stepping on people who fell as the crowd strongly swayed back and forth near the stage. Nobody was killed, thankfully. I was able to lift one guy back to his feet and the drugged idiot acted like he wanted to fight me over it. I was tempted to shove him back down to get trampled some more, but I ignored him instead.

The Romans learned a lesson about packed people when they were slaughtered by Hannibal and his troops too.

6. That's my question too. What the hell caused the stampede?

I don't want to jump to conclusions like maybe people rushing to kiss the feet of a cult figure or anything like that. weird.

7. Watch video of it. Huge crowd in a packed space. It happens

in other places also with similar conditions and it seems to usually be for some religious thing.

5. In a crowd that size, being outdoors doesn't help.

People tend to be packed in cheek by jowl.
