Testifying at a Texas bankruptcy court hearing convened as part of the pro gun-group’s effort to evade a move by New York officials to put the pro-gun group out of business, Lapierre said he hunted water buffalo and elephants on the dime of NRA vendors was “all work.” Among the allegations leveled in a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James’ is that LaPierre and other key players at the NRA use donor funds like a “piggy bank” to fund extravagant trips around the world, no-show contracts, and a traveling “glam squad” of stylists for LaPierre’s wife, Susan. -snip- “Yes. If he hunted buffalo in Botswana, or anywhere else in Africa, he hunted Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer). "Water buffalo" refers to a wild (Bubalus amee) or domesticated (Bubalus bubalus) animal from South and Southeast Asia.
A lot of people make this mistake, but if you're going to hunt and kill an animal, at least have the decency and respect to call it by its proper name. (For what it's worth - the only African land mammal more impressive than a Cape buffalo is an elephant. They have a swagger that comes not from outward aggression, but from the knowledge that they can easily rub you out if you piss them off. Lions generally don't mess with them.
