Senior party leaders and Democratic National Committee members are privately exploring the idea of pushing South Carolina and Nevada to the front of the primary election schedule, as well as the possibility of multiple states holding the first nominating contest on the same day.
Two political heavyweights with longtime bonds to President Joe Biden South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn and former Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada are among those discussing the possible changes.
Both have long insisted that Iowa and New Hampshire have an outsized role in framing the presidential contest despite being unrepresentative of the rest of the country.

Now, before you get excited, consider two things:
1. The Democratic Party cannot change what the State of New Hampshire chooses to do, and the State of New Hampshire WILL move its Primary date ahead of any of State's schedule (see what they planned to do in 2008).
2. The Democratic Party cannot change what the State of Iowa refuses to do. If Iowa decides NOT to hold a Primary (which they will) there will still be a Caucus; they only options are the date and format.

(1,406 posts)Neither state reflects Democratic Core values. A Strong Democratic State should lead the way. Let's stop letting the Republicans pick our Candidate. Or do regional block voting. That way campaigning will be consolidated and set the sizes of regions to balance out each other.

(94,508 posts)...you immediately give an advantage to well-known, well-funded candidates who can focus their resources on TV commercials. The advantage of small States at the front end is that it requires candidates to engage one-on-one with voters, respond to local issues, deal with hecklers, etc.
In 2020, you would have had a race between Biden, Sanders and Warren. Yang, Buttigieg, Steyer, etc. would never have gotten noticed.

(2,266 posts)I live in iowa. If they want to be first, they get one delegate for each dem senator, house of rep, governor, lt governor, secretary of state, and auditor if state elected as a democrat.
The two delegates won't be worth fighting for.
If they move the date then they can have the same number if delegate that they had before.
