Pence pushes false election fraud claims in denouncing Democratic reform bill

(CNN)Former Vice President Mike Pence is seizing on a Democratic-led initiative to streamline election standards to again push false claims of voting irregularities in one of his first public statements since leaving office.

Pence expressed concern about "the integrity of the 2020 election," citing "significant" and "troubling" voting irregularities in an op-ed for the conservative publication Daily Signal.

There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would have changed the outcome of the 2020 election, and Pence did not make any specific claims in his op-ed. Rather, the former vice president continued to promote the misinformation pushed by former President Donald Trump that led Trump supporters to storm the US Capitol as Pence joined the Senate to certify the election's results.

While in office, Pence never publicly challenged Trump's false claims that the election was stolen from him, but he didn't address the matter after he certified the results on January 6. In his last days in office, he touted administration accomplishments and avoided questions from the press amid Trump's impeachment, and has largely kept a low profile since President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Why not call their bluff?
Biden could announce that he has heard Republicans and he will address their concerns. First for the next election at least, paper ballots, hand counted only. While they study how machines are deployed and how they can have more oversight on their "proprietorial" programming software, and also create a reliable paper trail for each vote, as some machines I hear do not do that.

If Democrats were really bold they'd go further, and say in order to make sure that all Americans had the proper opportunity to vote, voting day would now be a national holiday.

Declare harsher penalties for those convicted of voter fraud. (psssst, its been very few and almost exclusively Republicans doing it)

They could go further. Announce a study about if they need the Electoral College in 2021.
If Democrats were smart about it, they'd use Republicans, mostly invented, concerns against them. If Republicans keep whining about election securtiy and fairness, lets bat the ball back. Open up the pandoras box and start looking at fairer models for Senators per so many thousand citizens, instead of land mass.

I'd love it if we had them scrambling to suddenly go 180 and say nothing needed to be changed, everything is fine.
