Supreme Court could put new limits on voting rights lawsuits

WASHINGTON (AP) — Eight years after carving the heart out of a landmark voting rights law, the Supreme Court is looking at putting new limits on efforts to combat racial discrimination in voting.

The justices are taking up a case about Arizona restrictions on ballot collection and another policy that penalizes voters who cast ballots in the wrong precinct.

The high court's consideration comes as Republican officials in the state and around the country have proposed more than 150 measures, following last year’s elections, to restrict voting access that civil rights groups say would disproportionately affect Black and Hispanic voters.

A broad Supreme Court ruling would make it harder to fight those efforts in court. Arguments are set for Tuesday via telephone, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

1. It is also possible that his ruling could make voting access more accessible.

2. A lot of these proposed voting changes could harm senior citizens access to voting

And the GOP can't win without large turnout from the 55+ crowd.

They're taking a gamble trying to make voting less accessible.

4. What they are doing, yes, makes no sense! As our population ages, many R voters will be prevented...

...from voting by mail, having someone drop off their ballot. etc. Heck, they can't even request a ballot by email as they either don't have a computer or can't figure out how to use one. Rapidly aging states like FL and AZ will be hit by so many defections (i.e. deaths) by old R voters that even draconian voting laws can't stop the evolution to D-friendly voter majorities.

We know the fastest growing crop of voters (young, minorities, college educated) do overwhelmingly vote for D's and yeah, the R's have another whole set of booby-traps they are frantically working on to suppress these votes. However, most of these state level laws can't stop them from voting and as the recent national elections showed, like in Georgia, even formerly heavy R states have failed to stop the surge of these up and coming voters.

Ah, but if they only changed their platform to encompass change that benefits all Americans with employment, health care, equal rights and more, maybe just maybe more voters would pull the R lever.

Nah, that will never happen!

3. The ONLY way Republicans win is by RESTRICTIONS to the right of voting.

They want only THEIR kind voting. To hell with Seniors, African-Americans, POC, the first time voter, the young voter.

Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and reinstall the Pre-Clearance part.

6. More proof right wing policies are failures

Since they can't sell their failing right wing policies, they'll cheat to prevent us from voting to change them. They won't be able to suppress forever.

7. So, it's time to increase the number of Dem appointments to the Supreme Court.

A Court that is stacked with partisan Republican judges, should not be making these decisions.

10. The original Constitution supports voting restrictions, the amendments support voting rights

Trouble is that conservatives harken back to the founding document's exact text to obtain the original meaning, a very problematic approach.

11. We need to have the Voters Rights Act 2.0 passed today

and to then expand the courts from 9 to 15 or 21 at the US Supreme Court and then expand the appeals court and to eliminate this BS.
Arizona just made it possible with a lawsuit or some messed up law to gain access to the last ballots that were cast and the voting machines in the last election......even though they were certified twice..........that is what fascists' do its that simple, they are pissed off that people voted to get rid of psychopath, because lets remember when the American journalist got murdered and was asked that question, he is fucking answer was he more worried about money and then to top it all off he led the sedition and insurrection, and there party is nothing more than fascists'.
And these right wing federalist society POS sitting on the Supreme bench are just as corrupt, because three of them are from Gore Vs Bush election that started this downward spiral ...............
