US carries out air strikes in Syria targeting Iranian backed militia structures
Source: CNN
![]() The US military struck a site in Syria on Thursday used by two Iranian-backed militia groups following rocket attacks on American forces in the region in the past two weeks, according to a US official. The strikes mark the military's first known action under President Joe Biden. The site was not specifically tied to the rocket attacks, but were believed to be used by Iranian-backed Shia militias operating in the region. The site is believed to be used as part of a weapons smuggling operation by the militias. The strikes were carried out to degrade the ability of the groups to carry out future attacks and to send a message about the recent attacks, the US official said. The decision to target the site in Syria was made from the "top down," a defense official said, and was not because of a specific recommendation from the military. This scares the hell out of me. Whey don't we just pull out and go home. We have better things to spend our money on! Leave Syria alone.

3. Less to do with Syria, more to do with Iran...
...stockpiling long range rockets used to attack US forces in Iraq or to fire across the border into Israel, if they can get them there, Israel has been on top of blowing them up before they head their way.

4. We Need to Get Out of the Middle East
We need to get out of the Middle East. Then we would not have our troops being attacked. I so hope this is not the beginning of more wars. I am fed up with the money wasted on these wars.

5. Getting out is not the solution as a no hands off approach to issues in regions has been tried in
the past by the US and it helped create worse problems.
No, what we need to do is be involved but stop blindly supporting the actions of some of our so called allies like Israel for example as that does not help the situation at all. |

7. This is infuriating
The decision to target the site in Syria was made from the "top down," a defense official said, and was not because of a specific recommendation from the military.
I'll say no more. |

8. We really need to come up with a detailed strategy and purpose for what we're doing there
When I say there, I mean the entire region. Not just Syria. What exactly are the goals? Are there any? What are the strategic or even humanitarian purposes for what we're doing? How does it benefit the American people and how does it benefit the people in the region?
It all seems pretty damn erratic and unfocused with no particular intent. If our leaders can't make any sense of this, then we just need to pull out fully to reassess what we're trying to accomplish, if they are worthwhile goals, if those goals match up with our ideals as a nation, and what's the best methods to achieve those goals. We have more tools than just a hammer. |

16. Biden made the right call
He needs to defend our troops as long as they are in Iraq, the Iranian backed militia's can't be allowed to attack our troops across the Syria/Iraq border with impunity. This is Biden making calls that are hard but necessary, there is no reason for the militia's to attack across the border other than to target Americans.

17. If we didn't have troops in Iraq we wouldn't have had to
Last edited Fri Feb 26, 2021, 10:23 PM - Edit history (1) bomb Syria to kill militia backed by Iran. Biden needs to speed up our withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan. Isn't 17 years enough?
Edit: Meant Iraq, not Iran. |

18. We aren't leaving any time soon
As Commander in Chief Biden has the responsibility and duty to protect those troops and not allow people to attack them for no reason. I know this is going to shock some people but Iran does not get to decide what countries in the Middle East get to host what troops, does anyone honestly believe Iran would tell Russian troops to leave if another country told them to?

20. That's the thing with these military adventures.
There is always an in-country faction who wants you to be there.
It seems we have all but forgotten Vietnam. And to hear Macron urging Biden to increase our military presence in the Mideast - it's sickening. |
