Malcolm X family unveils letter alleging NYPD, FBI assassination link
Source: Axios
The family of Malcolm X released a letter Saturday purportedly written by a now-deceased police officer alleging that the New York Police Department and FBI were behind the 1965 assassination of the Black civil rights leader. Why it matters: Scholars and civil rights advocates have long said men charged with killing Malcolm X, later known as el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, in New York’s Audubon Ballroom were wrongly convicted. Some have alleged police and federal agents played a role in his death. Driving the news: The family made public the letter attributed to Raymond Wood, a former undercover NYPD officer, who confessed before dying that the NYPD and FBI conspired in the assassination. Wood wrote that he was ordered to see that Malcolm X would have no door security in the Harlem building where he was scheduled to speak. 1. I remember back in the day that there was
Some speculation about the FBI possible role. And there were questions (remember this is a long time ago) that Malcolm was going to speak to the United Nations about America’s treatment of Black Americans. A long time ago...memories.

3. I hope the DA pursues this to nth degree
Too many atrocities that have gone unpunished.
By the way, Judas and The Black Messiah, is a must watch movie. It tackles this very topic- in regards to Fred Hampton's murder. |

4. Some conspiracies are real.
The difficult part is determining which ones, or which parts (sometimes there's a kernel of truth but way exaggerated).
Certainly this passes the smell test for me ... not that it smells pretty, of course, but that it is in accord with what we know about the FBI and other law enforcement, and particularly in that historical period. |

7. Yes he was.
And I wouldn't be surprised if NYPD and FBI were accomplices.
I lived through the 60's and still do not trust the FBI all that much and how many are oath keepers or what not. |

6. I believe that there are elements in the intelligence services who stir up the loonier ones
intentionally, just to make it harder to distinguish between the real ones and the fake ones. So they all can be labelled as "conspiricy theories".

9. One thing is certain, there are circles, within circles within circles
The actual truth is sometime difficult to pinpoint.

10. Would I be surprised? No, however until actual evidence
that proves it did happen it will remain yet another theory.

11. Did my eyes open extra wide when I heard this (NOT from surprise)...
See I was 12 yrs old then, and lived in NYC as I still do.
Since Malcolm X lived in (I believe in Queens) NYC his comments, comings, and goings were local news as well. It seems that (and I never asked her which station) my mom would sometimes hear him giving speeches on the radio. Local low powered radio? We didn't have all-news stations until several years later. Whether she was just hearing snippets from a news report or full speech I don't know for sure. I remember her saying to me something like ...'I don't know why, or if he hates all white people because he speaks so beautifully about his own people'. I'm thinking maaaybe this was before he traveled to Mecca. It also sounds like from what she was describing that it may have been more than just a typical especially back then white radio station because of what they covered (positive comments about black people). I remember somewhat about him returning from Mecca, and what he said. The kicker is back then in our second family apartment - we lived about 9 blocks north of The Audoban Ballroom (and previously my first family apt 7 blocks south west of it). Part of my 2 neighborhoods so to speak. While I don't live there now there's a few buses that pass by it that in my normal travels (pre-covid) I still past it from time to time. My mom was shocked, and saddened when we heard the news about his assassination. An untypical response from a white person. I took my cues from her. Back to our present - I'm not surprised of NYPD, FBI possible, probable involvement. Especially thinking how "Jedger" treated a man like Dr King, let alone the general, and perceived contrast between MLK, and Malcolm X. |

12. Hmmmm...if they were involved in Malcolm X's killing...

13. Or even Fred Hampton
I finally got chance to see the film "Judas and the Black Messiah" about what lead up to the assassination of Chicago Black Panther Chapter head Fred Hampton, including use of an in embedded informant and DOJ's (the FBI's) significant role in ordering it (Hoover).
Imagine Martin Sheen as Hoover. Took me awhile to figure out who was playing that character early on in the film. ![]() ![]() |

15. The Warren Commission said otherwise and they investigated for
fifteen seconds after they had already decided what happened. History is a set of lies agreed upon.

14. I think similar things were done to many back then.
Rename the J Edgar Hoover building something else.
