Multiple states demand Space Command investigation
Source: Albuquerque Journal
After losing a space race of sorts to Alabama, officials in New Mexico and other states that failed in their bid to host the U.S. Space Command are calling for an investigation into the selection process.
Several lawmakers said the U.S. Air Force appeared to be playing politics when it chose Redstone Arsenal outside of Huntsville, Alabama, over five other cities including Albuquerque, as the location for Space Command Headquarters.
Officials in New Mexico, Colorado and Nebraska all said there were better reasons to locate the command center at Air Force bases in their respective states.
Its no surprise the outgoing administration would make a politically-motivated decision on their way out the door, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said.

considering that NORAD has been located in Colorado since it was built........ in what is practically the most RED city in the nation.
I wonder how much Alabama had to pay Jared & Ivanka for Alabama being named ???????..........
AND, Albuquerque and Colorado Springs do not have Hurricanes!!!!!!!!????????

(10,962 posts)It seems logical, even if it is a Red state.

(17,085 posts)Some of my rocket scientist friends relocated there years ago. New Mexico has a strong case, too, what with the aliens at Area 51, and whatnot.

(3,579 posts)the Aliens are in a deep freeze at Wright-Patterson AFB. Area 51, Groom Lake, wasn't even opened until 1955.😉

(6,017 posts)Nebraska has...uh...geographic centrality, missile silos - and a nexus of Internet connectivity.
Colorado has the Air Force Temple - uh, I mean Academy & NORAD.
Alabama has...history? Proximity to both Kennedy Space Center & Houston?

(5,857 posts)for space -- Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone AF base.
I don't know if its a good selection, but its not completely out of left field.

and the Air Force have always worked together hand in glove. Redfield AF base is almost across the street from Marshall Space Center in Huntsville, and engineers and personnel go between them all the time. Most astronauts are active duty military, and space walk training is done at Redfield for instance.

(2,770 posts)are all close. They all have astrophysicists and other space scientists at work. With the Spaceport here, a case can be made that New Mexico would have been a solid choice. Of course, were a blue state so Im sure thats disqualifying to Republicans.

(53,737 posts)WTF? Why aren't there Space Force bases? Is it because this is just a made up trump creation he can brag about creating?
Dissolve it and integrate it back into the Air Force from whence it came.

(19,226 posts)without hitting a hollow rocket on display. We had the Peenemünde crowd here to kick start the space program in America. Since then the area has turned into a Southern R&D hotspot and I would guess that there are more engineers in Hsv than just about any other profession.

(15,265 posts)Whatever military concerns there are in space can be handled by the USAF, no need for a seperate command.
