Oregon Trader Joe's manager calmly intercepts anti-mask protesters' shopping attempt: 'That's not go
Source: Oregonlive.com
Trader Joe’s nationwide policy requires customers to wear masks in stores. “We’re not demonstrating, we’re buying groceries,” a protester says. “That’s why I’m here.” The manager says he is enforcing the store’s mask mandate. “It’s not a law. You cannot enforce non-law,” a protester says. “You cannot deny somebody the right to commerce.” The store manager appears to offer to shop for the protesters and bring out what they want. Amid growing shouting, a woman says: “I need to buy groceries. I don’t know what I want until I go in and see it. The Civil Rights Act protects me to go in and shop like everybody else.” https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJ81wxmng90/?utm_source=ig_embed Read more: https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavirus/2021/01/oregon-trader-joes-manager-calmly-intercepts-anti-mask-protesters-shopping-attempt-thats-not-going-to-happen.html The nation is suffering from a pandemic of convoluted rightwing "rights" argle bargle. The young manager deserves a medal for his calm and patient handling of the situation. The antimaskers are taking their stand in one of the hotspots in Oregon for the 'rona. The mutant variant has found its way here.

But the ADA has provisions for businesses to make "reasonable accommodations" and also has provisions allowing for exemptions in the case of communicable diseases.
As a disabled person myself I hate it when these people spout off about the ADA, a law they know nothing about and which Republicans have been trying to repeal or gut since 1990. |

55. Perhaps
But it has been my experience that the only way someone like this learns is when you drag his sorry infected ass out of the door and throw in him into the street. And, if he tries to re-enter, you use whatever means necessary to protect your shop, your customers, and your own life and livelihood. Once a few of these idiots spend a bit of time in the hospital before their trial and sentencing for attempted manslaughter (Which is what this is. Anyone who behaves in this way during a pandemic is guilty of that very charge in my opinion), they might... might... learn. But, as usual, not holding my breath. I mean, they have not learned anything yet...

She was eventually arrested and booked for trespassing and resisting arrest.
BTW, it's not the first time she's been embroiled in controversy. Falco-DiCorrado, a staunch Trump supporter, was forced to resign from her volunteer seat on the County's Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board in 2017, following controversial remarks made during a meeting to designate Boynton Beach a sanctuary city. Falco-DiCorrado allegedly told Black residents at the meeting, "You're lucky we brought you over as slaves, or else you'd be deported too." She later told the Palm Beach Post her comments were misinterpreted and she didn’t mean any harm. |

People argue all sorts of shit about their rights but the employees just simply say - this is private property and the owners get to make the rules.
I stopped and listened to an idiot (woman about 30) argue with a store manager the other day. She screamed "it is a HIPPA violation to tell us to wear masks". I burst out laughing. She looked at me and repeated the HIPPA thing - I laughed again and said "You don't even know what that means. Better do some more research." She left. |

50. The manager made a crucial mistake
He engaged with the anti-maskers. You can't, much like you can't engage with a MAGA't: they are all BULLIES. You cannot speak to or reason with a bully.
While TJ is a "nice" store and the employees are "friendly", I doubt that they would be nice with a person carrying a gun to a cashier saying they need some money as they left their wallet at home. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but these anti-maskers are physically dangerous. They cannot be let inside. Period. End of discussion, and the manager let it go on way too long, IMO. He could have simply told them you cannot come in without a mask, but then engaging in a discussion about civil rights laws was totally futile: when you engage with them on something like this, you're now playing the game on their terms. Even if they draw you in like that, he could have said no and further said that if they have a court order saying that requiring masks violates civil rights laws, he'd be happy to forward that to TJ's corporate HQ. And then he could call the police to ask them to remove the trespassers. This is the DU member formerly known as DonaldsRump.

64. These are facebookers going into stores to instigate
They have been doing it all over. They go into a store, most often with masks, then they remove them so they'll get "harassed" by store employees so they can video and post to social media. Cowards remove comments from these posts. Hate those fuckers. I have their Facebook pages somewhere.

65. There should be a site publicizing them, like the insurrectionists
They are generating fear and intimidation towards those who REALLY don't want this virus.

66. I was talking to a Trader Joe employee about mask
enforcement and told me they explain it’s private property.
How this came up was during my checkout, I had brought a bag in as I’ve done before, but he said they changed back to no customer bags being allowed in since the 2nd wave hit. I said no problem and we talked about how it got tighter again and that’s when he started opening up about the anti-maskers and their silly arguments, and they tell them it’s private property. |

67. Next time you're in there
..tell them that they have a lot of sympathy and support on this forum. They are essential workers.

68. Great idea! I try to be as supportive as possible, but I
might just mention the internet support.

69. Couldn't they just call the cops and have them removed
from the premises? I would've lost my job if I was the manager because after about 2 minutes of that bullshit I would have lost my cool with that moron.
