Pence "discouraged, disheartened, hurt and stunned," source says

Source: CBS News

A former White House official with close ties to Vice President Mike Pence described the vice president as "discouraged, disheartened, hurt and stunned" by President Trump's treatment of him, and is "disgusted" by the storming of the Capitol on Wednesday.

The source said Pence never seriously considered using the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office. The source said that during conversations earlier in the administration, White House lawyers researched its applicability and found it really covered incapacity, due to things like a serious injury or undergoing anesthesia.

The source said it is Pence's goal to lay low this week, carrying out Coronavirus Task Force duties and making sure his presence is felt — if for no other reason than to steady traumatized staffers trying to make sense of their purpose in this strange time of inactivity and nervousness.

The source advised that Pence intends to do something to show a smooth transition of power, although what that might be has yet to be decided. Options include inviting the incoming president and vice president to the Naval Observatory, greeting the Bidens at the White House for a ceremonial tea, or greeting them at the Blair House and riding with them to the inauguration.

That's where my mind goes too. Trump could not really do anything he wants right now. Assurances he can't activate the football have been given, Twitter clipped his chirps, the levers of power may not be inactive as much as very stiff and hard to move. Just hope there is no serious national security issue. But even there Pence may find his mojo quickly.

The Constitution seems to be a little fuzzy on this point. Excerpt from a USA Today article:

"Late former Sen. Birch Bayh wrote in his book “One Heartbeat Away: Presidential Disability and Succession” that he knew the most controversial aspect of the amendment he authored would be how to handle the rare instances when a president’s team disputed his ability to serve.

“You know, fellows, we've talked about this problem a hundred times,” Bayh recounted, telling his aides when they were in the final stages of negotiation. “The only time it would present itself – the only time the president would say 'I'm well and able' and the vice president and cabinet would disagree – would be if the president was as nutty as a fruit cake.”

We have been at the fruit cake stage for awhile now.

Lock him up.

Mon Jan 11, 2021, 11:10 PM

He knew that as a fact and was probably reminded of that truth by whatever is left of the WH staff. He still “ordered” Pence to do it, and he did so deliberately precisely so he could throw Pence under the bus -- or in this case, throw him to the mob. And Pence has to know that he knows. Pence has to know that the son of a bitch set him up as a target for the mob for no other reason than to give himself a little clearer image as the "Chosen One, betrayed by one of his apostles. In this case Pence is Judas, and screw the consequences to Pence and his family.

But Pence still lacks the spine to act, to step up and do the right thing.

And his inaction has to be from fear, plain and simple. Realizing that the devil he’s worked for since 2017 has turned his evil wrath on him has left him trembling praying for guidance from the Lord.

I’d bet that he and Mother have been praying hard for an explanation from the good Lord, almost ceaselessly, especially since the crowd of traitors in the Capitol Building were looking for him, and shouting his name in conjunction with a hanging. Pray, on ones knees, to God and his son Jesus.

And, like all these hypocritical christians who have tolerated Trump’s crimes and sins for so long as excusable because Trump's been “chosen”, Pence hears god’s convenient answer, No seriously, it goes something like this: "Michael, do not do anything to hurt my Chosen One. You’ve been a good boy and will come unto me if you just keep cool and let this pass.” All of which means that, after all, Pence really can’t take any strong action against the worst human being in America because Pence and mother have received a heaven-sent revelation directly Mr. Big (by which I mean God, not Trump).
