(CNN Business)The 2022 PGA Championship will not be played at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey, according to an announcement from PGA of America President Jim Richerson Sunday night.
"The PGA of America Board of Directors voted tonight to exercise the right to terminate the agreement to play the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster," Richerson said in a written statement.
The PGA Championship is one of the four "majors" in men's professional golf the four most prestigious tournaments on the professional golf calendar.
"It has become clear that conducting the PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand, it would put at risk the PGA's ability to deliver our many programs, and sustain the longevity of our mission," Richerson added in a video address. "It was a decision made to ensure that PGA of America and the PGA Professionals can continue to lead and grow our great game for decades to come."

(6,477 posts)It's a big money loser too to lose a major. Ouch, reputationally and financially. Imagine being a former President and the motherfucking PGA is like, nah, being seen with you will damage our brand. That's ice cold.

(3,341 posts)The Golf Channel has featured him many times, and even President's Cup captain Steve Stricker said he was proud to have trump attend one day of the tournament, he was disgusted when someone pointed out that trump was unwelcome...many USA golfers seem to lean republican, European golfers are more in tune with who trump is, and they despise him.

(6,856 posts)Mr. Branding killed his own brand. But the lesson is that he did the same thing to almost every trademark he owned since the 1980shis incompetence is a matter of public record.
That is, public record to anyone who defies his order to dont look!. His success is those morons who refuse to check his credentials or worse, simply take him at his word. The word of a proven serial liar.

(3,341 posts)I lost all respect for Nicklaus, my son even had a golf ball signed by him, but after his endorsement of trump I lost all respect for the guy. It was not difficult because the respect I had for him was as a golfer, his achievements on the golf course and his charitable contributions with the hospitals, etc. but I had never read or seen any interviews from him about other things besides golf, until trump showed up and he started endorsing the buffoon.
Anyway, happy that trump will not get any golf tournaments on any of his courses, and maybe by the end of these year he won't own any as they all seem to be loosing money, and the prospects of jail time, etc.
