WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday the House will proceed with legislation to impeach President Donald Trump, calling him a threat to democracy after the deadly assault on the Capitol.

.............
"The horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action."
Pelosi said that first the House will try to force Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to oust Trump by invoking the 25th Amendment.
On Monday, House leaders will work to swiftly pass legislation to do that. If it is blocked by Republicans, which is almost certain, the House will convene for a full House vote Tuesday.
Pelosi explained that the resolution calls on Pence "to convene and mobilize the Cabinet to activate the 25th Amendment to declare the President incapable of executing the duties of his office." (3,538 posts)For at least the past 3 years. While she may not have had the power, she has represented the best of what the U.S. can be and should be. Without her, we would have nothing and Trump would have killed us all - with his enablers.

They must force the Tangerine Traitor from office on Monday or they get to publicly vote
" Yes or No " for Impeachment on Tuesday.
If I was a congressional rethug, I believe I'd call in sick on Tuesday and claim to have a
case of the democrat hoax covid, and can't come in until after the Inauguration.

(18,536 posts)Right now, pretty much the entire nation is against Trump . . . all impeachment will do is ensure that the spotlight remains on him right into the beginnings of Biden's presidency, and his supporters will turn it into Trump martyrdom . . . he has to be held accountable, but let the new Justice Department handle it after passions cool a bit . . . what we don't need is Saint Donald on a crucifix -- which is exactly how he will portray himself . . . and God knows his followers listen to his every word, and take it as gospel . . .
as Arnold says, he's about to become as stale and meaningless as an old tweet . . . let's just let him blow away for now and come back for him after Biden has a chance to try to govern without Trump hanging over his head . . .
imho . . .

First off - Trump will soon be dethroned as POTUS, and the US has far more pressing matters than "going after" The Donald . . .
People lost there jobs and homes , and are still losing them in increasing numbers as a result of this Covid thing . . .
USA is the prime reason we are approaching a global war again with it's military incursions across the planet, pushing China and Russia closer to military alliance, not a desirable situation for the West, or the whole planet for that matter.
If y'all wanna just get rid of Trump - let him go, ignore him - threatening him will not stifle him, in fact pursuing him will just keep his public image growing cuz he'll fight like hell - Let him move on quietly.
He loves the spotlight . . .
Don't give it to him!
(sigh)

(1,203 posts)is not holding back either. She might be a worthy successor to Nancy. Didn't take Cori long, either, to make her voice known in town.

(13,023 posts)Not to dininish Cori's intelligence &tenacity, but she just barely got started with her political career. Give her & the other newbies a few years of experience under their belt. There are plenty of great House members i'd like to see take the helm once Nancy retires. But at this moment of tremendous crisis i trust noone else but her extremely capable judgment.

(1,309 posts)If he could just somehow manage to pry his lips from donald's ass, he would realize all the advantages of the 25th amendment. He wants to be president. Hey, here's your dress rehearsal! Only a few days, but you will be in the history books as president. And what if you actually managed to grow a spine and did something, anything, to be of service to this country? The base already hates him, so nothing to lose there. It's all win if he just does this. Who is he afraid of? His fellow rethugs? Trump already has it out for him. This is his ONE chance to shine and do the right thing. What an idiot.

...there is no escaping their responsibilities, let's hope they all reflect and make wise decisions...
...HISTORY will hold them accountable...
