Pence says he lacks authority to throw out Electoral College votes

Vice President Mike Pence said on Wednesday that he lacked constitutional authority to follow President Trump's wishes to throw out Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

What he's saying: "It is my considered judgement that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not. "

After today, Trump’s options (none of them ever truly possible) will have mostly disappeared. Even his new sycophant Pentagon appointees are likely to balk at an attempted military coup, which I suspect Trump will try to order. And maybe his Proud Boys will slink away into the night after today.

An unhappy Trump is a beautiful thing to contemplate.
