(CNN)This is what presidential leadership looks like.
As President Donald Trump ignores America's slide into a tragic winter and obsesses over his false claims of a stolen election, three of his predecessors are volunteering to bare their arms on camera to build confidence in the vaccines that could finally end the pandemic.
The effort by former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, which was reported by CNN's Jamie Gangel, is sure to infuriate the current commander in chief. Trump is claiming the lion's share of credit for the unprecedented speed of development of several vaccines -- despite his neglect of other aspects of the public health disaster that has killed more than a quarter of a million Americans.
The former presidents are stepping up as America plunges into its toughest battle against Covid-19 before the new vaccines, expected to soon be approved by US regulators, bring deliverance. But there are few signs that the current President is ready to call on the nation to muster for one last fight against the worsening pandemic before the immunizations become available to most Americans.

Bravo for Clinton, Bush, and Obama.

(3,479 posts)Is backbreaking poverty. I want Don Jr. going through dumpsters for a meal. I want Eric having to wait in line for a minimum wage job. I want Ivanka selling her ass on the corner for a cheeseburger. And Big Daddy Don babbling in a corner at a nursing home with a one star rating. They don't deserve three hots and a cot.

(48,603 posts)has not affected development of vaccines. I think there may have been some speedup in manufacturing and possibly deployment.

(42,770 posts)would be intimately involved with deciding who gets the vaccine first. Thought it would have been a perfect campaign issue, say in Michigan. You want this man who made your governor beg for PPE in charge of who gets vaccine?

(42,770 posts)Where we make decisions based on many factors and other people he just has one. How does something affect only him. Does it boost his ego? And can he make more $ by getting people to pay for something.
Reading Michael Cohen's book and he talks about how he worked for him for nothing at first. It was standard MO... To make it feel like it's an honor to work for the almighty one.

(259 posts)I told him that in a recent e-mail ( I am one of his constituents so I actually got an answer for whatever that is worth). I told him that it was a good thing to do, but it also is something anyone can do. He on the other hand has a voice as a Senator and could be doing so much more. For a start he could publicly acknowledge Joe Biden as President-elect and urge his fellow Republicans to do likewise.

(17,968 posts)I might add a small note here. The vender who ran the Golden Lamb quit leaving the employees without pay. The Portman family paid their wages. Rob is a Republican but came from a well respected family in the southwest area. He needs to change parties.

(90,730 posts)That former holders of the oval have to step into provide leadership because Trump is not a leader nor has he ever been.
"The people" have basically governed themselves the last 4 years with direction from some of the more capable Governors around the country.
Not all of our fellow citizens were on board and they are still not now, but truly, the people have been without any presidential/federal leadership since 2017.
That lack of leadership has killed a couple hundred thousand (and rising), decimated entire segments of the economy - Covid-19 did not have to cause the financial ruin it has for many Americans and if the country had a real President and an ethical Senate majority, people would be in a lot better shape financially right now.
If the Republican Party was any kind of decent at all, they would have worked with the Democratic Party to help Americans through this horrible time.
Instead, money best spent helping the people went to cronies and family members.
Helping the people is the same as helping the country.
But Trump and McConnell don't care. Neither give two fucks at all.

If it doesn't kill him, then he won't be able to pass on his COVID to the rest of his cell block.
