Biden's doctor says he has hairline fractures in his foot after slipping while playing with his dog

Washington, DC (CNN)President-elect Joe Biden has hairline fractures in his "mid-foot" and will "likely require a walking boot for several weeks," his doctor said in a statement Sunday, after Biden slipped while playing with his dog, Major, Saturday.

"Initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but his clinical exam warranted more detailed imaging," Dr. Kevin O'Connor said Sunday. "Follow-up CT scan confirmed hairline (small) fractures of President-elect Biden's lateral and intermediate cuneiform bones, which are in the mid-foot. It is anticipated that he will likely require a walking boot for several weeks."

Earlier Sunday, Biden's office announced he was going to be examined by an orthopedist "out of an abundance of caution" after he twisted his ankle playing with the dog. Biden, who celebrated his 78th birthday on November 20, is set to be the oldest president in US history. During the campaign, the Biden campaign released a summary of Biden's medical history, which showed the former vice president was healthy and fit for the presidency.

The release included the results of a physical exam by O'Connor, Biden's primary care doctor since 2009 and the director of executive medicine at The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates. O'Connor wrote that Biden is "a healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency."

1. Get well soon Mr. President-elect!

"Initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture, but his clinical exam warranted more detailed imaging,"

**********
If this was you or I, we'd have been sent home after the x-rays that showed nothing most likely.

Glad Pres.-elect Biden has good care.

Maybe he'll be able to get this for every American.

5. Ouch!

I hope he gets a full recovery ASAP
Foot fractures can take months to heal completely. The xray is normal after 6 weeks, but other stuff stays messed up.

6. My daugher had a hairline fracture atop her foot...

She fell running through the house a week before competing in a national ice skating competition. The doctor missed the fracture in the x-ray and said it was just a bruise; he told us to let her compete and not have her miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

She landed thrown jumps in pair skating as well as double jumps on her own ,in a very sturdy and supportive skate.

She came home in worse pain, so we went to an orthopedist who was going to order an MRI, but then looked at the original xray and spotted the fracture.

They put her in a walking boot and thankfully she was totally fine in just 3 weeks, though she was a young teen at the time.

I hope Biden has a full recovery, too!

7. I suffered a hairline fracture while trying to keep a Honda CB400-4 from tipping while parking it

before work. It weighed more than twice what I weighed, thought the stand was secure, it wasn't. Anyway, I finished my shift, in pain, ended up getting it x-rayed & found a stress fracture. Took about a week for it to start feeling better just wearing a wrist support band. I loved that bike, it was my brothers so wasn't used to it.

9. Are walking boots the next generation of a cast?

I used to get stress fractures back in the day when I was running a lot, usually in my ankles. I'd end up in a cast for several weeks.

I'm sure this will be one more thing for trump to trumpet about. Best wishes to the real President!

15. Can he play golf in a "walking boot"?

This might keep him off the golf course for a while. I'm sure he wants to lose that boot asap.

He might not have much spare time for the next hundred days or so anyway.

... Frisbee golf with a couple of German Shepherds may be extra challenging. "That Frisbee is NOT getting past these jaws, Joe."

the frisbee would only last 1 throw so he would need a whole crate of them!
