Pfizer’s top executive denied in an interview Tuesday that the drugmaker intentionally held major news about its experimental coronavirus vaccine until after the election to hurt President Trump’s reelection bid.
CEO Albert Bourla flatly rejected the evidence-free rumor, saying the timing of last week’s encouraging vaccine announcement had nothing to do with politics.
“I will be very direct: We didn’t conspire with anyone, of course,” he said at a New York Times panel. “The election was always for us an artificial deadline. It may have been very important to the president, but not for us.”
The conspiracy theory began spreading online after Trump accused the pharmaceutical company of conspiring with federal regulators to make the announcement after Nov. 3.
