U.S. Senate race results in Alabama: Republican Tommy Tuberville defeats Democrat Doug Jones
Source: AL.com
Alabama voters elected first-time candidate and former football coach Tommy Tuberville as their next U.S. senator today, a choice that reaffirms Republican dominance in the state and could affect the larger struggle for power in Americas capitol.
The Associated Press called the race for Tuberville at 9:10 p.m.
With 55% of precincts reporting, and 43% of the expected vote in, Tuberville had 655,179 votes, or 62%, to 402,386 for Jones, or 38%.
Alabama Republicans were eager to take back the seat Sen. Doug Jones captured three years ago when he became the first Democrat to win a Senate race in the state since 1992.
