'We Want People Who Won't Be Afraid': MPD Union Forwards Call For Ex-Cops To Serve As Poll Challenge

'We Want People Who Won't Be Afraid': MPD (Minneapolis Police Department) Union Forwards Call For Ex-Cops To Serve As Poll Challengers

An official with the Trump campaign is looking for retired police officers to be poll challengers on Election Day.

The ask was made to the Minneapolis Police Union. Union officials then put out the call for retired officers to serve as "eyes and ears" at polling sites in problem areas across the city on Tuesday.

(snip)

Bob Kroll, president of the Minneapolis Police Federation, sent the request to federation members asking them to please share and email him if they were willing to assist.

Secretary of State Steve Simon says Minnesota has laws that limit the role of poll challengers on Election Day.

"You cant just show up and say, 'I'm here to be a poll watcher or challenger,'" he said. "The law is really clear on poll challengers. Every major political party gets one just one and they have to designate that person in writing, and once the person gets there to be a challenger they face some restrictions. They can't come within 6 feet of a voter. They cant speak to a voter."

[and more on the restrictions on poll watchers at the link ... the challenge must be based on knowledge of the voter and not on a whim or a hunch etc. etc.]

Anyway he has a long history of being a first class asswipe and Trump political apparatchik.

As a needless reminder, it was Minneapolis police officers who killed George Floyd

5. Kill the union. Disband the force, start a new one and invite the former cops to apply. No union.

It was good enough for saint ronnie.

8. Certainly the law is clear on this, but enforcing it against these fascists will be a huge task.....

and the tRump campaign knows it. If their intent is to intimidate voters (which seems like a good assumption) it will be like a game of whack-a-mole trying to stop it.

10. Be sure to have your local FBI office number ready if someone harasses you & also call 911 &

, just as important, your states elections office/board. They were the biggest help for me back in '12, took them 10 minutes to straighten out my local fascist clerk.

13. True - but a challenger can't talk to the voter, one has to complain to the election judge

from something I read somewhere.
